The focus of my label work over the years has been on the musicians and their production. That’s why I wanted the German Record Critics’ Award 2025 to be a celebration of contemporary jazz music. The LOFT and the German Record Critics’ Award offer a hand in this.
I’m delighted that musicians who have been part of the Intakt family for many years are playing at the LOFT. Ingrid Laubrock and Lucas Niggli also bear responsibility as board members of Intakt Records. Sylvie Courvoisier’s tribute to label co-founder Irène Schweizer, who died in 2024, on the opening evening will keep the memory of the great jazz pianist alive for all of us. Three active working bands form the focal points of the evenings: the trio around Ingrid Laubrock, Tom Rainey and Brandon Lopez, Anna Webber’s trio with Matt Mitchell and John Hollenbeck and the band Punkt.Vrt.Plastik with Kaja Draksler, Christian Lillinger and Petter Eldh. The New York saxophonist James Brandon Lewis does us the honor with one of his rare saxophone solos.
Questions about production methods and survival strategies are constantly present at Intakt Records, which was voted one of the five best jazz labels in the world by the American jazz magazine Downbeat. There will be a discussion about this at the LOFT.
Before the third concert evening, Bert Noglik will give the laudatory speech for the German Record Critics’ Honorary Award 2025.
