Zoubek: 2 Flügel an 3 Abenden mit 4 Pianisten

Das LOFT ist einer der ganz wenigen Konzertorte für Jazz und improvisierte Musik, der zwei Flügel zur Verfügung stellen kann. Mit dem Kalender Piano Piano – Weiter geht’s haben wir im Jahr 2011 die Pianisten*innen und Flügel in den Fokus genommen. Jetzt nutzen wir die Gelegenheit – wie zuletzt zu anderen besonderen Anlässen, z.B. bei den Tagen der offenen Tür oder den Jubiläums-Konzerten – Konzerte mit beiden Flügeln zu organisieren. Dafür haben wir erneut den von uns besonders geschätzten Pianisten Philip Zoubek eingeladen, nach seinem fulminanten Solo Konzert im April sollen jetzt an drei Abenden drei Kollegen verschiedener Genres mit ihm an zwei Flügeln musizieren.

Im zweiten Konzert am Montag den 18. Mai hat Zoubek den Elektroniker und Pianisten Christian Lorenzen zu Gast. Er stellt sein von ihm entwickeltes, elektro-akustisches Setup zwischen präpariertem Klavier und modularen Synthesizer vor. Mit Kontaktlautsprechern werden die elektronischen Sounds in den akustischen Flügel „eingespeist“. Es entsteht ein packendes, hybrides Geflecht von perkussiven Klängen, organischen Layern und Feedback-Loops.

Das erste Konzert wird Zoubek am Mittwoch den 13. Mai mit seinem ehemaligen Lehrer an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln Paulo Alvares bestreiten. Paolo war vor allem in den 90er Jahren bei uns sehr präsent, und gewann 1991 mit einer Aufnahme aus dem LOFT den 1. Preis im Wettbewerb Musik kreativ (unter mehr als 1.2000 Einsendungen, den 2. Preis gewann damals Frank Gratkowski, ebenfalls mit einer Aufnahme aus dem LOFT).

Mit Sebastian Sternal präsentiert sich im dritten Konzert am Samstag den 23. Mai ein Musiker, der seit Jahren ein fester Bestandteil des Programmes im LOFT ist, und der den die-LOFT-Konzerte-organisierenden-Verein 2ndFLOOR e.V. auch als Vorstandsmitglied unterstützt. An diesem Abend wird das Duo die Kompositionen des Klarinettisten Jimmy Guiffre improvisatorisch unter die Lupe nehmen. Es wird spannnend.

Zoubek: 2 grand pianos on 3 evenings with 4 pianists

The LOFT is one of very few concert venues for jazz and improvised music that can provide two grand pianos. In 2011, we already put focus on the pianists and grand pianos with the calendar Piano Piano – Weiter geht’s. Now we take the opportunity – as recently on other special occasions, e.g. at the open house days or the anniversary concerts – organizing concerts with both grand pianos. Once again, we have invited stellar pianist Philip Zoubek. After his brilliant solo concert in April, he has now invited three colleagues from different genres to play music with him on two grand pianos on three evenings.

In the second concert on Monday, May 18th, Zoubek will host electronics engineer and pianist Christian Lorenzen. He presents a electro-acoustic setup he has developed between the prepared piano and a modular synthesizer. With contact speakers, the electronic sounds are „fed“ into the acoustic grand piano. The result is a gripping, hybrid network of percussive sounds, organic layers and feedback loops.

On May 13th, Zoubek will play the first concert with his former teacher at the Cologne conservatory (Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln) Paulo Alvares. Paolo was very present with us, especially in the 90s, and won the 1st prize at the creative music competition with a recording from LOFT in 1991 (among more than 1.2000 applicans, Frank Gratkowski won the 2nd prize at the time, also with a recording from the LOFT).

With Sebastian Sternal, the third concert on Saturday, May 23 presents a musician who has been an integral part of the LOFT program for years and who also supports the 2ndFLOOR e.V. organizing the LOFT-concerts as a board member. The duo will improvisationally examine clarinetist Jimmy Guiffre’s compositions. Brace yourselves!
