Ungewöhnliche Zeiten erfordern ungewöhnliche Maßnahmen, so auch in diesem Fall. Zwar ist die Konzert-Tour nach Rostock, Pohrsdorf, Mainz, Hamburg und München aufgrund der Corona-Pandemie abgesagt, dennoch kann das CD-Release mit einem livestream-Konzert im Kölner LOFT gefeiert werden!

Hier präsentiert die Kölner Workingband Janning Trumann 4 das Release der neuen CD: mit Emotional Reality beschreibt Trumann seine individuelle Einschätzung des tagtäglichen Umgangs miteinander und nimmt Bezug auf Scheinwelten, in die wir zuweilen flüchten. Aufgenommen wurde die Musik im Herbst 2018 von Stefan Deistler im LOFT, mit Simon Nabatov, Dierk Peters, Drew Gress und Jochen Rückert. Da an exzellenten Musikern in Köln kein Mangel herrscht, und die Logistik überschaubarer ist, hat sich Trumann entschlossen, das CD-Release mit seiner Working Band zu begehen: mit Lucas Leidinger, Florian Herzog und Thomas Sauerborn schaut Janning Trumann auf eine mehrjährige intensive und erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit. Sie spiegeln den Klang einer jungen und aufstrebenden Generation von Jazzmusikern wieder und spielten Konzerte u.a. auf Festivals wie Jazz Baltica oder der jazzahead!.

Das Zusammenspiel des Kölner Ensembles steht für couragierten Aufbruch und den Wunsch, über vormalige Horizonte hinauszugehen. Sie zeigen Gestaltungswillen, der sich aus intensiven Interaktionen speist und beweist, dass eine Band viel mehr ist als die bloße Summe ihrer Mitglieder. So transzendieren sie den Geist des Jazz überzeugend in die Gegenwart. Sie bewahren nicht die Asche, sondern schüren die Glut.

Here, the Cologne-based working band Janning Trumann 4 presents the release of his new CD: with Emotional Reality, Trumann describes his individual assessment of how we deal with each other on a daily basis and refers to pseudo-worlds into which we sometimes flee. The music was recorded in autumn 2018 at the LOFT by Stefan Deistler, with Simon Nabatov, Dierk Peters, Drew Gress and Jochen Rückert. Since there is no shortage of excellent musicians in Cologne, and the logistics are more manageable, Trumann decided to celebrate the CD release with his working band: with Lucas Leidinger, Florian Herzog and Thomas Sauerborn, Janning is looking back at intensive and successful collaborations for many years now. They reflect the sound of a young and aspiring generation of jazz musicians and played concerts – among others – at festivals like Jazz Baltica or the jazzahead !

The interplay of the Cologne ensemble stands for courageous departure and the desire to go beyond previous horizons. They show creative will, which is fed by intensive interactions and proves that a band is much more than the mere sum of its members. In this way, they convincingly transcend the spirit of jazz into the present. They don’t keep the ashes, but stir up the embers.
