Since 2016, the jungesloft collective has curated an annual concert series to provide a platform for outstanding young musicians* in the field of jazz and improvised music/performance. In this year’s edition of the Monday Meetings under the motto Coalesce, the existing format of the encounter will be intensified.
Keisuke Matsuno is an electric guitarist and sound maker firmly rooted in the music scenes of Brooklyn and Berlin. His musical aesthetic has been called “salt of the earth” (Bird is the Worm) and “most extravagant, mind-blowing, and unheard-within-the-unheard” (Blow Up). He is a founding member of the band “Trio Schmetterling”, is a band member of Jim Black’s “Smash & Grab”, “Wood River”, “Hues”, “Smashing Humans”, Briggan Krauss’ “The Need Trio” and John Zorn’s “Bagatelles”, among others, and has also worked with Chris Speed, Thomas Morgan, Hans Tammen, Grey McMurray, Peter Apfelbaum and Red Baraat. While recording over 30 albums and touring in over 30 countries on five continents, he has also collaborated with various artists in dance, theatre and film. As the protagonist and composer in Misaki Matsui’s short film “with Kenji and Keisuke” (USA/Japan), he deals with the themes of identity, multiculturalism and life in New York City. Born in Berlin, he grew up in both the divided and reunited city and moved to the US in 2010.
