Set #1
Marcella Lucatelli – voice
Constantin Herzog – bass
Jonas Engel – saxophone
The second day of the festival starts with Cologne-based double bassist Constantin Herzog and saxophonist Jonas Engel, who will meet Danish singer Marcela Lucatelli.
Marcela Lucatelli is considered one of the most innovative singers and composers of her generation. Born in Brazil and living in Denmark, the singer has gained international recognition for her highly original, sensual and politically charged performance works and is known for her ”scores for the limits of body and voice” (The Wire) and for transgressing social norms.
Lucatelli meets Constantin Herzog and Jonas Engel, two musicians whose work as improvisers questions the conventional acoustics of their instruments. Between preparations and playing techniques, sounds emerge that hold new and unfamiliar things in store. Herzog is a founding member of the Impakt Kollektiv and Engel is jointly responsible for the Cologne-Copenhagen exchange.
Set #2
Lars Bech Pilgaard – guitar
Thomas Sauerborn – drums
The second set will be played by Cologne drummer Thomas Sauerborn and Danish guitarist Lars Bech Pilgaard.
Lars Bech Pilgaard’s guitar playing is imbued with energetic and sonic diversity. He has made an international name for himself through his intense playing style and has played extensively on the stages of Europe with his ensembles such as SVIN, Klimaforandringer and Slowburn. Stylistically Pilgaard moves between noise, sacral nerve and organic improvisation; however, the musician’s musical expression is always changeable. Unconditionally he explores music with room for the abstract as well as the concrete. He has found a suitable partner for this evening in Thomas Sauerborn from Cologne, whose playing unfolds in a way that is both energetic and exploratory. He is active in the young German music and improvisation scene in numerous projects and is currently working on his quintet debut KYIWI as well as the unconventional solo program [zimbel] for a cymbal. This duo guarantees an exciting festival conclusion!
