19.30 Uhr: Quispel Quintet
„In der Musik des international besetzten Quispel Quintets lässt sich lesen – wie in den Romanen des niederländischen Schriftstellers A. F. Th. van der Heijden. Seine Protagonisten, Motive und Plots nämlich inspirierten fünf Instrumentalisten, die sich in Wien zum Stelldichein trafen. Ihre abenteuerlichen Kompositionen und Improvisationen folgen einer unberechenbaren Dramaturgie, die durch Cool Jazz-Gefilde und avantgardistische Kammermusik-Gründe führen. Besetzt ist das Quispel Quintet mit lauter Größen: dem Wiener Saxofonisten/ Klarinettisten Leonhard Skorupa, dem amerikanischen Wahl-Niederländer Michael Moore (ebenfalls Saxofone/ Klarinetten), der aus Kroatien stammenden Cellistin Asja Valcic, dem deutschen Bassisten Robert Landfermann und dem zwischen den USA und den Niederlanden pendelnden Schlagzeuger Michael Vatcher.
Was sie zusammen treiben, hat manchmal etwas sehr Feinsinniges und oft etwas Rauschhaftes. Ihr Album heißt übrigens „Dipsomania“ – das ist ein historischer Begriff, der das unstillbare Verlangen nach Alkohol und Drogen beschreibt.“

21.00 Uhr: Multiphonics Improvisers Orchestra & PATA MAGMA
Saxophonist und Komponist Norbert Stein kreiert mit seiner Pata-Musik eine einzigartige Palette an musikalischen Ausdrucksmöglichkeiten. In Anlehnung an die Pataphysik des Schriftstellers Alfred Jary führt er sein Projekt konsequent in den Bereich der freien Musik, die wie ein Fluss in Bewegung ist, stetig, nie aber hektisch. Mit dem kybernetischen System PATA MAGMA entstand nun ein weiterer Ort der musikalischen Begegnung. Das improvisierende Orchester des Multiphonics Festivals schöpft die Musik aus sich selbst heraus und bietet durch vielfältige Gruppierungsmöglichkeiten ein weites Spektrum an künstlerischen Begegnungen. Wie klangliches Magma lässt das Ensemble Steins „Komprovisationen“ an die Oberfläche emporsteigen. PATA SIGNS ist ein Leporello aus sieben grafischen Modulen, erschaffen für ein Festival der expressiven Kommunikation.

Quispel Quintet
The music of the international Quispel Quintet can be interpreted in the same way as the novels of Dutch author A. F. Th. van der Heijden. His protagonists, motifs, and plots inspired five instrumentalists who met in Vienna for a rendezvous. Their adventurous compositions and improvisations follow an unpredictable dramaturgy that leads through cool jazz realms and avant-garde chamber music grounds. The Quispel Quintet is made up of big names: Viennese saxophonist/clarinetist Leonhard Skorupa, American-born Dutchman Michael Moore (also saxophones/clarinet), Croatian cellist Asja Valcic, German bassist Robert Landfermann, and drummer Michael Vatcher, who commutes between the US and the Netherlands.
What they do together is sometimes very subtle and often intoxicating. Incidentally, their album is called “Dipsomania” – a historical term describing an insatiable craving for alcohol and drugs.“

Multiphonics Improvisers Orchestra & PATA MAGMA
Saxophonist and composer Norbert Stein creates a unique range of musical expression with his Pata music. Inspired by the pataphysics of writer Alfred Jary, he consistently takes his project into the realm of free music, which flows like a river, steadily but never hectically. With the cybernetic system PATA MAGMA, another place for musical encounters has now been created. The improvisational orchestra of the Multiphonics Festival draws its music from within itself and offers a wide spectrum of artistic encounters through diverse grouping possibilities. Like sonic magma, the ensemble allows Stein’s comprovisations to rise to the surface. PATA SIGNS is a leporello of seven graphic modules, created for a festival of expressive communication.
