Bisher standen die Monday Meetings unter dem Motto der (Neu)Begegnung.
Mit Neuzuwachs im Kurator:innenteam wird das Konzept in diesem Jahr erweitert um einen “außermusikalischen” Aspekt: die eingeladenen Künstler:innen dürfen sich – zusätzlich zum Konzertteil – jeweils Vortragsgäste aussuchen, die sie mit ihrer Musik verknüpfen oder die ein Thema behandeln, das sie beschäftigt.

Mitsune ist eine 5-köpfige japanische Folk-Fusion-Band aus Berlin (aktuelle Tour-Besetzung zu viert, ohne Tina Kopp), deren Mitglieder aus Japan, Deutschland, Australien und Griechenland stammen. Geleitet von einem kraftvollen Trio von Shamisen-Spielerinnen, begleitet von Perkussion und Kontrabass, verbinden Mitsune ihre Liebe zur japanischen Folk-Musik mit östlichem Blues, Jazz, Rock und Filmmusik, um ein eindrucksvolles Musik-Fusion-Erlebnis zu schaffen.

Das Herz und die Seele von Mitsune ist das Tsugaru Shamisen, eine dreisaitige japanische Laute, die einst von Blinden und Wandermusikern im alten Japan bevorzugt wurde. Mitsune ehrt und modernisiert die Shamisen-Tradition und vermittelt mit diesem alten Instrument folkloristische Bilder, persönliche und kulturelle Geschichten und pure Emotionen. Sie spielen neu interpretierte japanische Volkslieder und Eigenkompositionen voller Virtuosität, treibender Beats und mitreißendem Gruppengesang. Auf der Bühne liefert Mitsune ein visuelles und künstlerisches Fest, bei dem Tradition und Avantgarde aufeinandertreffen. Ihre Shows sind gewürzt mit einem allgegenwärtigen Gefühl von Freude und Fantasie.

Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2018 haben Mitsune zahlreiche Auftritte bei Festivals, Kulturveranstaltungen und Konzerten in ganz Europa absolviert. Im Februar 2022 veröffentlichten sie ihr zweites Album Hazama, das in Songlines und Rolling Stone gelobt wurde und in die Top 10 der Transglobal World Music Charts einstieg.

So far, the Monday Meetings have been held under the motto of (re)encounters.
With the addition of new members to the curatorial team, the concept will be expanded this year to include an „extra-musical“ aspect: in addition to the concert part, the invited artists will be able to choose guests for lectures who they associate with their music or who deal with a topic that concerns them.

Mitsune is a 5-piece Japanese folk fusion band based in Berlin (winter tour linup with four of the band members), with members hailing from Japan, Germany, Australia and Greece. Fronted by a powerful trio of female shamisen players, accompanied with percussion and double bass, Mitsune take their love of Japanese folk music and infuse it with eastern blues, jazz, rock and cinematic music to create an evocative music fusion experience.

The heart and soul of Mitsune is the Tsugaru shamisen, a 3-stringed Japanese lute once favoured by blind folks and itinerant musicians of olden Japan. Mitsune both honours and modernises shamisen tradition, conveying folklore imagery, personal and cultural stories and raw emotion through this ancient instrument. They perform reimagined Japanese folk songs and original compositions filled with virtuosity, driving beats and wild group vocals. On stage, Mitsune delivers a visual and sartorial feast, where traditional meets avant-garde, their shows spiced with an everpresent sense of joy and fantasy.

Since their formation in 2018 Mitsune has performed extensively across Europe and the UK. They released their sophomore album Hazama in February 2022, praised in Songlines and Rolling Stone, and entering the Transglobal World Music Chart at #10.
