Charlotte Greve (b. 1988) is a German-born alto saxophonist, composer, and singer who lives in Brooklyn. She began playing the classical flute at age eight and took up the saxophone at sixteen; after completing her studies at the Jazz-Institut Berlin, she moved to New York in 2012 to pursue a master’s degree at NYU.
She gained recognition with her Lisbeth Quartet, which centers on her highly personal saxophone sound – at once forceful and elegiac. Two of her albums have won the ECHO Jazz award, and in 2022 she was named “Artist of the Year” at the German Jazz Prize. Her genre-spanning magnum opus Sediments We Move was named one of the 25 best classical tracks of 2021 by the New York Times. Other projects include the alto saxophone quartet Asterids, the trio The Choir Invisible, and the ambient duo Sooner.
