Um sich mit Kollektiven Individualismus auseinanderzusetzten, war der Besuch von Michael Moore im Rahmen der Monday Meetings 2020 bereits im September 2020 geplant, und musste damals krankheitsbedingt verschoben werden. Auch der Nachholtermin am Montag den 8. Februar 2021 musste verschoben werden, Schuld war dieses Mal das Wetter. Wir hoffen, dass das Konzert & der livestream am Montag den 22. Februar 2021 stattfinden können….und sind vorsichtig optimistisch.

Der US-Klarinettist Michael Moore ist seit den 80er Jahren in der niederländischen Jazzszene heimisch und wurde mehrmals vom DownBeat als bester Klarinettist ausgezeichnet. Er wird sich – anhand des Themas der Konzertreihe – mit der Frage „why can’t people live in counterpoint“ beschäftigen.

„Meine 45-jährige Erfahrung in der kollektiven Improvisation hat mich zu der Überzeugung gebracht, dass man eine individuelle Geschichte mit einer eigenen Logik kreieren und dabei gleichzeitig den Klang und die Richtung berücksichtigen muss, die das Kollektiv einnimmt. Oft bleiben die Individuen in einer Gruppe klanglich nahe beieinander und entwickeln sich langsam gemeinsam weiter.
Die Erzeugung von Spannung beispielsweise durch einen Kontrapunkt ist dabei unabdingbar. Für mich geht es nicht um die Frage „Warum kann man nicht in Harmonie leben“, sondern „Warum kann man nicht im Kontrapunkt leben?“

Dieses Konzert im LOFT ist eine Premiere: obwohl sich die drei MusikerInnen aus der lebendigen und kreativen Amsterdamer Improvisationsszene gut kennen, haben sie noch nie als Trio zusammen gespielt. Hinter dieser Musik steckt keine Ideologie. Man kann erwarten, dass sich die Musik schnell ändert und von Textur zu Melodie und wieder zurück wechselt. Marta verbringt so ebensoviel Zeit im Klavier wie am Keyboard. Tristan befindet sich möglicherweise hinter seinem Schlagzeug oder irgendwo anders im Raum, während Michael die Augen weit geschlossen hat, um Informationen zu verarbeiten und zu füttern…

In order to deal with collective individualism, the visit of Michael Moore in the context of the Monday Meetings 2020 was already planned for September 2020, and had to be postponed at that time due to illness. The new date on February 8th 2021 had to be cancelled on short notice due to bad weather. The concert & livestream is now planned for Monday 22nd of February 2021…we are optimistic.

The US clarinetist Michael Moore has been a member of the Dutch jazz scene since the 80s, and has been awarded several times by DownBeat as best clarinetist. Based on the theme of the concert series, he will address the question „why can’t people live in counterpoint„.

Often the individuals in a group stay close sonically and slowly evolve together.
Creating tension through counterpoint, for example, is essential in this process. For me, the question is not „Why can’t you live in harmony?“ but „Why can’t you live in counterpoint?“

This concert at LOFT is a premiere: although the three musicians know each other well from the lively and creative Amsterdam improvisation scene, they have never played together as a trio before. There is no ideology behind this music. You can expect the music to change quickly, shifting from texture to melody and back again. Marta spends as much time in the piano as she does at the keyboard. Tristan may be behind his drums or somewhere else in the room, while Michael has his eyes wide shut, processing information and feeding…
