Können Jazz, Pop, Klassik und Folk mit nur einem Cello und einer Stimme auf der Bühne vereint werden? In seiner Soloshow One Voice, One Cello beweist der britische Jazzcellist Rupert Gillett, dass es möglich ist!
Ob virtuos, humorvoll oder berührend – seine Musik entführt in die vielseitigen Klangwelten des Cellos. Bekannt aus der Londoner Musikszene, hat Rupert im Laufe der Jahre eine einzigartige Cellotechnik entwickelt, die es ihm ermöglicht, das Cello als Jazz-Soloinstrument, Bassinstrument, klassisches Instrument oder sogar als komplette Rhythmusgruppe einzusetzen.

Rupert hat mit Künstler*innen wie Jazz Legende Jacqui Dankworth MBE, Alison Moyet (Yazoo), Shara Nelson (Massive Attack), Katy Carr, Delain und Modern Nature zusammengearbeitet und war mit verschiedenen Ensembles mehrfach im BBC-Radio und Fernsehen zu hören. Außerdem ist er vor Publikum wie Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom und HRH Prince Philip aufgetreten. Er ist Dozent an der Cello Akademie Rutesheim und hat auch an der Royal Academy of Music, dem New Directions Cello Festival und verschiedenen anderen Festivals und Kursen unterrichtet. Als Sänger ist Rupert in vielen verschiedenen Ensembles aufgetreten und arbeitet derzeit mit seiner Partnerin Valerie Rathmann im „Heart Strings Duet“.

Can jazz, pop, classical and folk be combined on stage with just one cello and one voice? In his solo show One Voice, One Cello, British jazz cellist Rupert Gillett proves that it is possible!
Whether virtuosic, humorous or touching – his music takes you into the versatile sound worlds of the cello. Known from the London music scene, Rupert has developed over the years a unique cello technique that allows him to use the cello as a jazz solo instrument, bass instrument, classical instrument or even as a complete rhythm section.

Rupert has collaborated with artists such as jazz legend Jacqui Dankworth MBE, Alison Moyet (Yazoo), Shara Nelson (Massive Attack), Katy Carr, Delain and Modern Nature, and has been heard on BBC radio and television several times with various ensembles. He has also performed for audiences such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom and HRH Prince Philip. He is a lecturer at the Cello Akademie Rutesheim and has also taught at the Royal Academy of Music, the New Directions Cello Festival and various other festivals and courses. As a singer, Rupert has performed in many different ensembles and is currently working with his partner Valerie Rathmann in the „Heart Strings Duet“.
