Mit ROAR präsentiert der Kölner Bassist Reza Askari erstmals ein Ensemble von fünf herausragenden Musiker*innen. Das Quintett entwickelt eine Form akustischer Musik, in der Komposition und Improvisation untrennbar miteinander verwoben sind.
Grundlage des Projekts ist Askaris Konzept des Creative Doom: eine akustische Auseinandersetzung mit den Strukturen, Energien und Spannungszuständen extremer Musikformen. Beeinflusst von aktueller Improvisation, Noise und experimenteller Musik entstehen dichte, vielschichtige Klanglandschaften – ohne stilistische Zitate, aber mit vergleichbarer Intensität, rhythmischer Komplexität und körperlicher Präsenz.
Im Zentrum von ROAR steht nicht die exakte Reproduktion notierter Musik, sondern ein kollektiver Prozess, in dem komponierte Strukturen und spontane Entscheidungen gleichberechtigt aufeinandertreffen. Präsenz, Interaktion und gemeinsame Energie formen den Klang im Moment seines Entstehens.
ROAR ist akustische Musik mit maximaler Spannung: roh, unmittelbar und kompromisslos.

With ROAR, Cologne-based bassist Reza Askari presents an ensemble of five outstanding musicians for the first time. The quintet develops a form of acoustic music in which composition and improvisation are inextricably interwoven.
The project is based on Askari’s concept of Creative Doom: an acoustic exploration of the structures, energies, and tensions of extreme musical forms. Influenced by contemporary improvisation, noise, and experimental music, dense, multi-layered soundscapes emerge—without stylistic references, but with comparable intensity, rhythmic complexity, and physical presence.
At the heart of ROAR is not the exact reproduction of written music, but a collective process in which composed structures and spontaneous decisions meet on equal terms. Presence, interaction, and shared energy shape the sound in the moment of its creation.
ROAR is acoustic music with maximum tension: raw, immediate, and uncompromising.
