With his piano trio with double bassist David Helm and drummer Dominik Mahnig, pianist Philip Zoubek has once again inscribed unexpected facets and forms into perhaps the most classical jazz format – with remarkably conclusive results. Seamless transitions from composition to improvisation characterize the trio’s third album in ever new transformations of form. Between contemplative calm, repetitive and attacking, this also creates atmospheres beyond the usual through the inclusion of a synthesizer and preparations of the grand piano. It is about the organic coexistence of the elements and the logic of the interplay, it is about a changed approach to the principle of improvisation.
