Die ägyptische Königin Nofretete wird im Englischen Nefertiti genannt. Jazzfans wissen: Dies ist auch der Name eines Albums des zweiten Miles-Davis-Quintetts. Der Titelsong stammt von Wayne Shorter. „Shorter ist unser Gott“, sagt die Pianistin Delphine Deau. Die einzigartigen melodischen und harmonischen Einfälle des im März 2023 verstorbenen US-Saxofonisten sind ein anhaltender Einfluss auf die Kompositionen, die Deau für die 2013 gegründete Band schreibt. Das Quartett fand am Pariser Konservatorium zusammen und ist auf den ersten Blick mit Saxophon, Piano, Bass und Schlagzeug traditionell besetzt, der Klang ist jedoch niemals vorhersehbar.
Das Nefertiti Quartet gewann 2019 die Euroradio Jazz Competition (Pierre Demange gewann außerdem den Preis für den besten Solisten) und wurde für das französische Förderpgrogramm Jazz Migration #5 ausgewählt.
An zwei aufeinanderfolgenden Abenden Ende November wird das Quartet sein neues Live-Album im LOFT einspielen.

Delphine Deau entdeckte schon als Kind ihre Leidenschaft für das Klavier und erhielt bis zu ihrer Volljährigkeit eine klassische Ausbildung in Paris. Während ihres Physikstudiums wandte sie sich dem Jazz zu und begann am Konservatorium von Annecy ein weiteres Studium. 2012 kehrte sie nach Paris zurück, trat in das regionale Konservatorium ein und schloss dort zwei Jahre später ihr Diplom bei Benjamin Moussay, Pierre Bertrand und Emil Spanyi ab.
Als Bandleaderin und Komponistin formte Delphine ihr Quartett Nefertiti, das sich in nur einem Jahrzehnt einen festen Platz in der aufstrebenden europäischen Jazzszene erarbeitet hat und bereits zahlreiche Auszeichnungen gewann (u.a. 1. Preis beim Euroradio Jazz Competition 2019, Jazz Migration Preisträgerin 2020, Siegerin des Keep an Eye Records Competition 2022).
Mit bislang vier Alben – Danses Futuristes (2015), Morse Code (2018), Frameless (2022) und Live in Paris (2023) – tourt das Ensemble erfolgreich durch ganz Europa.
Trotz der klassischen Besetzung aus Saxophon, Klavier, Bass und Schlagzeug bleibt der Klang stets überraschend – vielschichtig, lebendig und niemals vorhersehbar.
Als Begleitmusikerin gewann Delphine zweimal den Solistenpreis bei den Trophées du Sunset, zuerst mit dem Tactus Quintet (Clément Piezanowski) im Jahr 2019, dann mit Opiq Vanjo (Ivan Quintero) im Jahr 2022. In beiden Quintetten erkundet sie ein originelles Repertoire, das stark von der New Yorker Jazzszene, Funk und Jazzrock beeinflusst ist.

Delphine nahm an mehreren europäischen Workshops teil, darunter SOFIA 2016 (Support of Female Improvising Artists) in der Schweiz und die International Jazz Platform 2019, 2022 und 2023 in Polen. Im Jahr 2023 wurde sie von der französischen Association Jazzé Croisé für das Pilotprojekt Constellations ausgewählt, eine neue Partnerschaft zwischen europäischen Nachwuchsprogrammen, welches ihr die Möglichkeit bot, ein Business-Residenzprogramm in Köln zu absolvieren und ihr Netzwerk in Deutschland auszubauen.

Seit 2022 ist sie Mitglied des französischen Kollektivs Pegazz & l’Hélicon und arbeitet an ihrem ersten Solo-Projekt für präpariertes Klavier. Ein originelles Projekt über die Musik der Renaissance und insbesondere über John Dowland. Außerdem schreibt sie gemeinsam mit dem Pianisten Axel Nouveau für das Duo Cosmic Keys, ein neues Elektronik-Projekt, das kürzlich den europäischen Wettbewerb Tremplin Jazz Avignon gewonnen hat und eine dreitägige Aufnahmesession im ECM-Studio La Buissonne gewonnen hat.

The name of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti is know to Jazz fans also as album titel by the second Miles Davis Quintet. The title song was written by Wayne Shorter. ‘Shorter is our god,’ says pianist Delphine Deau. The unique melodic and harmonic ideas of the US saxophonist, who died in March 2023, are a lasting influence on the compositions that Deau writes for the band, which was founded in 2013. The quartet came together at the Paris Conservatoire and, at first glance, has a traditional line-up of saxophone, piano, bass and drums, but the sound is never predictable.
The Nefertiti Quartet won the Euroradio Jazz Competition in 2019 (Pierre Demange also won the prize for best soloist) and was selected for the French support program Jazz Migration #5.
On two consecutive evenings at the end of November, the quartet will record its new live album at  the LOFT.

Pianist since she was a kid, Delphine studied classical piano in Paris until her majority and began Jazz at Annecy’s conservatory while pursuing a physics degree. Back in Paris, she enters the regional conservatory in 2012 and gets her diploma after 2 years with Benjamin Moussay, Pierre Bertrand and Emil Spanyi.  Leader and composer, Delphine managed to bring in 10 years her quartet Nefertiti to the emerging european scene level : First group prize at the Euroradio Jazz Competition 2019, Jazz Migration laureate in 2020, Winner of the Keep an Eye Records Competition in 2022… The band has records 4 albums (Danses Futuristes in 2015, Morse Code in 2018, Frameless in 2022 and Live in Paris in 2023), and keeps touring all over Europe.

As a side-woman, Delphine won twice the soloist prize at Trophées du Sunset, first with the Tactus Quintet (Clément Piezanowski) in 2019 then with Opiq Vanjo (Ivan Quintero) in 2022. Two quintets in which she explores original répertoires largely influenced by the New York Jazz Scene, funk and Jazz Rock.

Delphine also had the opportunity to attend several europeans workshops such as SOFIA 2016 (Support of Female Improvising Artists) in Switzerland, and the International Jazz Platform 2019, 2022 and 2023 in Poland. In 2023, she’s selected by the French Association Jazzé Croisé for the pilot project Constellations, a new partnership between european emerging programs which will give her the opportunity to do a business residency in Köln and develop her network in Germany.

Since 2022, she joined the french collective Pegazz & l’Hélicon and pursue her first solo creation on prepared piano. An original project on Renaissance’s music and especially John Dowland’s. She also co-writes for the duo Cosmic Keys with the pianist Axel Nouveau, a new electronic project, which has recently won the European contest Tremplin Jazz Avignon with a 3 days recording session at ECM’s Studio La Buissonne.
