Luise Volkmann and Matthias Muche have known each other for more than ten years from the Bunker in Bielefeld, East Westphalia, where they played together in the Satoko Fujii Orchestra.
In addition to many projects close to their hearts, they also share a fondness for composing large ensemble music—albeit in completely different ways. This makes their move into the intimate, direct sound space of the duo all the more exciting.
Volkmann’s work revolves around the transformative potential of music; with her bands – including her large ensemble Été Large – she creates spaces full of energy, imagination, and fearless devotion.
Muche develops a sound universe that emerges directly from the instrument, in which the trombone oscillates between wind instrument, resonance chamber, and sculptural object. In addition to his solo work, he builds complex sound architectures for large ensembles such as his BONECRUSHER ensemble.
Together, they unfold an intense interplay of two voices in which there is much to negotiate!
