At a time when national borders are becoming increasingly apparent, the Folk Stories concert series offers a different perspective: improvisation is the common ground.
This time, it explores the world of local folk music from Brittany.
In a duo featuring the Breton button accordion and saxophone, Jannick Martin from France and Cologne-based saxophonist Luise Volkmann create a world of playful melodies and experimental sounds.
Jannick Martin is a renowned musician in the Breton music scene, but for years he has repeatedly ventured into experiments with other musical genres such as jazz, experimental improvisation, and other transnational music. He plays the Breton button accordion. “I first met Janick musically a few years ago, and I found the melodic space that emerged when we played together absolutely overwhelming!” says Volkmann.
