Mit Celebrate the Trombone! begegnet das international renommierte Posaunentrio Jeb Bishop, Matthias Müller und Matthias Muche der Chicagoer Klangkünstlerin Olivia Block.
Seit 2016 erforscht das Trio die klanglichen Möglichkeiten der Posaune und hat sich mit seiner kompromisslosen Klangsprache international eine unverwechselbare Position innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Improvisationsmusik erarbeitet. Gemeinsam mit Olivia Block entstehen neue Arbeiten für drei Posaunen, Elektronik, Tastenklänge, Stimme und Klanginstallationen.
Die Begegnung eröffnet neue musikalische Räume zwischen Improvisation, Komposition und Klanginstallation. Soundscapes, Elektronik und Stimme treten in einen unmittelbaren Dialog mit den Posaunen und erweitern deren klangliches Spektrum auf überraschende Weise. Die Konzertreihe lädt Publikum und Künstler:innen gleichermaßen dazu ein, gemeinsam neue Abenteuer im Klang zu entdecken.

Die unterschiedlichen Konzertorte spiegeln die Vielseitigkeit des Projekts wider: Das exploratorium berlin, das LOFT Köln, die St. Petri Kirche Wilstedt und die Marienkirche Wallenbrück verbinden internationale Zentren experimenteller Musik mit den Heimatorten der Musiker – dort, wo die ersten musikalischen Sozialisationen zwischen Dorfkirche und Posaunenchor stattfanden.

In *Celebrate the Trombone!*, the internationally renowned trombone trio of Jeb Bishop, Matthias Müller, and Matthias Muche joins forces with Chicago-based sound artist Olivia Block. Since 2016, the trio has been exploring the sonic possibilities of the trombone and, with its uncompromising musical language, has carved out a distinctive position for itself within the international contemporary improvisational music scene. Together with Olivia Block, they are creating new works for three trombones, electronics, keyboard sounds, voice, and sound installations.
This collaboration opens up new musical spaces at the intersection of improvisation, composition, and sound installation. Soundscapes, electronics, and voice enter into a direct dialogue with the trombones, expanding their sonic spectrum in surprising ways. The concert series invites audiences and artists alike to discover new sonic adventures together.

The diverse concert venues reflect the project’s versatility: the exploratorium berlin, the LOFT in Cologne, St. Petri Church in Wilstedt, and St. Mary’s Church in Wallenbrück connect international centers of experimental music with the musicians’ hometowns—the very places where their earliest musical experiences took place, between the village church and the trombone choir.
