Mit unzähligen bekannten Musikern der amerikanischen Szene hat der irländische Gitarrist Mark OLeary schon zusammengespielt, mit Paul Bley, Jack DeJohnette, Sunny Murray, Peter Erskine, Gunter Muller, Joey Baron, Han Bennink, Bobo Stenson Kenny Wheeler, Anders Jormin, Bill Bruford, Palle Danielsson. Seine Discography ist beeindruckend: Self Luminous mit Mat Maneri und Randy Peterson, ein Trio Matthew Shipp and Mat Maneri, Levitation mit Tomasz Stanko und Billy Hart, Closure mit Uri Caine and Ben Perowsky, Awakening mit Steve Swallow und Pierre Favre, Waiting mit O’Leary, Cuong Vu und Tom Rainey ……im Loft eine Session mit dem Wahl New Yorker Thomas Heberer und „dem“ Trommler Jonas Burgwinkel.

Mark O’Leary – Guitar

Mark O’Leary is a guitarist and composer born in Cork, Ireland. He was educated at Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Mark O’Leary is considered by some to be the most technically gifted and innovative guitarist Ireland has ever produced.The release of numerous cd’s in the past 3 or 4 years has helped him gain a growing following not just in Ireland but abroad as well. He is also an electronic artist composing soundscapes that can be described as post-industrial ambient /Landscape and he is a multi genre composer. He has performed in 30 countries, in some of the most prestigious venues and festivals, including Kennedy Center, North Sea Jazz Festival, Knitting Factory, Tonic, Vortex, Athens Euro-Jazz.

O’Leary specializes in post-jazz music, he has worked with electronic artist Gunter Muller and performed his contemporary classical works with Cikada string quartet. He has toured Europe as a member of Paul Bley’s trio and played with King Crimson drummer Bill Bruford, Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine, Joey Baron, Sunny Murray and Han Bennink. O’Leary’s CDs have received favorable reviews from the British magazine Jazzwise, Downbeat, the Wire and The Guardian. Mark also has the distinction of having played in duo with Paul Bley, Bobo Stenson and Matthew Shipp He has also performed with Percussionists Terje Isungset, Alex Cline, Alexander Tarasov and Hans-Kristian Kjos-Sorensen

Thomas Heberer – Trumpet

The Penguin Guide to Jazz called him „an outstandingly gifted trumpeter,“ colleague Dave Douglas „a European master,“ and critic Steve Lake „our new trumpet genius.“

He was awarded the prestigious SWF-Jazzpreis (1990), and both the Jazz-Art-Preis and the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik with Heberer/Manderscheid. As a member of Misha Mengelberg’s Instant Composers Pool (ICP), he won the Down Beat Critics Poll in 2002, and the Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik with Aki Takase’s Fats Waller Band in 2004.

Thomas Heberer, born 1965 in Schleswig, Germany, started playing the trumpet at age 11; from 1984 to 1987, he studied under Manfred Schoof at the Cologne conservatory.

He has performed on 5 continents, was a part-time lecturer at the conservatory Frankfurt/Main (1993-97) and a guest lecturer at the Banff Centre in 2007, served as Germany’s representative with the European Broadcast Union Big Band in 1998, recorded over 50 CDs as a sideman and has a dozen CDs under his own leadership.

Jonas Burgwinkel – Drums

Jonas studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston with Ralph Peterson and Jamey Haddad. Over the years he has played concerts and recorded albums in numerous different settings with artists like Mark Murphy, Lee Konitz, Antonio Farao, John Taylor, Nils Wogram, Gerd Dudek, Phil Harper, EBU Big Band or Jasper Blom. He toured and played on festivals in the USA, Australia,China, Korea, Scandinavia, France, Portugal, Marocco, Italy,Rumania, Spain, Poland and the Benelux.
