Es werden sowohl selbstgeschriebene Stücke als auch Klassiker des traditionellen kubanischen Repertoires erklingen.\nUnter dem Titel Cello – Mi tierra verbirgt sich eine starke Verbindung zu den afrokubanischen Wurzeln des Musikers\, die seine Kompositionen stark beeinflussen. Er kombiniert oft europäische Harmonien mit lateinamerikanischen Rhythmen und Jazzelementen\, und sucht nach Klängen\, die aus dem Cello und dem Klavier heraus eine Begegnung zwischen der Natur und dem Abstrakten hervorbringen. Durch Improvisationen und den Einsatz seiner Stimme als zusätzliches kreatives Mittel zeigt er eine einzigartige Vielfalt von Klangfarben als künstlerischer Ausdruck. \nYaniel Matos\, gebürtig aus Santiago de Cuba\, begann seine musikalische Ausbildung im Alter von acht Jahren. Während seines Cello- und Kompositionsstudiums in Havanna\, wirkte er als Pianist in den bedeutendsten Tanz- und Jazzorchestern Kubas mit\, darunter Orlando Valles-Maraca\, Paulito FG und Isaac Delgado. Er trug dabei zur Entwicklung des Timba-Genres in den 90er Jahren bei. \nIm Jahr 2000 zog er nach Sao Paulo – Brasilien\, wo er sich als vielseitiger Musiker in der populären Musikszene etabliert\, und integriert dabei neue Rhythmen\, Farben und eine andere Art\, lateinamerikanische Musik zu erleben. Seine frühe Zusammenarbeit mit Künstlern wie Carlinhos Brown ermöglicht ihm eine tiefere Verbindung zur bahianischen Afro-Kultur\, in der er viele Gemeinsamkeiten mit der Kultur von Santiago de Cuba entdeckt. In dieser Zeit wächst der Wunsch\, seine improvisationsgeprägte Klaviersprache auf das Cello zu übertragen und dadurch unkonventionelle Wege in der Welt der Streichinstrumente zu beschreiten. \n„Das Cello und das Klavier bringen mein Leben ins Gleichgewicht” \nYaniel Matos hat bislang acht eigene Alben aufgenommen (von denen “La Mirada” bei den American IMW – Independent Music Awards 2015 als bestes Jazzalbum mit Gesang nominiert wurde) und ist auf zahlreichen internationalen Festivals aufgetreten. He will perform pieces he has written himself as well as classics from the traditional Cuban repertoire.\nThe title Cello – Mi tierra conceals a strong connection to the musician’s Afro-Cuban roots\, which strongly influence his compositions. He often combines European harmonies with Latin American rhythms and jazz elements\, searching for sounds that create an encounter between nature and the abstract from the cello and the piano. Through improvisation and the use of his voice as an additional creative tool\, he displays a unique variety of timbres as artistic expression. \nYaniel Matos\, a native of Santiago de Cuba\, began his musical training at the age of eight. During his cello and composition studies in Havana\, he played as a pianist in the most important dance and jazz orchestras in Cuba\, including Orlando Valles-Maraca\, Paulito FG and Isaac Delgado. He contributed to the development of the timba genre in the 90s. \nIn 2000\, he moved to Sao Paulo\, Brazil\, where he established himself as a versatile musician in the popular music scene\, integrating new rhythms\, colors and a different way of experiencing Latin American music. His early collaboration with artists such as Carlinhos Brown allowed him to connect more deeply with the Bahian Afro culture\, where he discovered many similarities with the culture of Santiago de Cuba. During this time\, his desire to transfer his improvisational piano language to the cello grew\, allowing him to explore unconventional paths in the world of string instruments. \n„The cello and the piano bring balance to my life“ \nYaniel Matos has recorded eight albums to date (of which „La Mirada“ was nominated for Best Jazz Album with Vocals at the American IMW – Independent Music Awards 2015) and has performed at numerous international festivals. He has also composed and produced music for several CD productions\, films\, documentaries and series in Brazil.\nHe has already performed at LOFT with the Cologne String BigBand in 2020 and with his trio in 2022.
