Lutosławski\, einer der größten europäischen Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts\, schrieb diese Lieder kurz nach dem 2. Weltkrieg als „funktionale Musik“\, um seine Familie zu ernähren. \nDie Mischung aus naiven Melodien\, krummen folkigen Formen und Lutosławskis teils wunderschönen\, teils kryptischen und dichten Harmonien\, bietet genau das richtige Ausgangsmaterial für Improvisation und Triokonversationen mit einem unsichtbaren vierten Mann\, irgendwo zwischen Jimmy Giuffres Trios und Tim Berne.\nMittlerweile werden auch Werke von Bartok und Schostakowitsch zur Recherchearbeit des Trios herangezogen. \nhttps://berta.berlin/witold\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H46sQrw6yzo \n\nKalle Kalima – guitar\nUli Kempendorff – tenor & baritone saxophone\, clarinet\nMoritz Baumgärtner – drums\n \nPlease read our infos concerning concerts with an audience during the Corona pandemic here. Information about prices\, ticket reservations and our opening times can be found here. \nWITOLD is a new trio around Kalle Kalima\, Uli Kempendorff and Moritz Baumgärtner. \nFor a session in summer 2019\, Kalle brought an arrangement for guitar of Witold Lutosławski’s „Melodie Ludowe“ (Folk Melodies). Lutosławski\, one of the greatest European composers of the 20th century\, wrote these songs shortly after World War 2 as „functional music“ to support his family. \nThe mixture of naïve melodies\, crooked folky forms and Lutosławski’s partly beautiful\, partly cryptic and dense harmonies\, provides just the right source material for improvisation and trio conversations with an invisible fourth man\, somewhere between Jimmy Giuffres Trios and Tim Berne.\nMeanwhile\, works by Bartok and Shostakovich are also used for the trio’s research work.r.
