Durch zahlreiche gemeinsame Sessions entwickelten die vier Kölner Musiker*innen eine gemeinsame Stimme. Gegenseitiges Vertrauen führt zu einer Spielweise\, die einen eigenen Organismus suggeriert\, der blitzschnell auf Veränderungen und Impulse reagiert. Damit kreiert die Band lange\, dichte Spannungsbögen\, in denen geräuschhafte Elemente auf theatralische Momente treffen. Klare Entscheidungen führen zu Überraschungen\, sodass das Meta-Instrument Dog Soup ein individuelles Verständnis von Schönheit erschafft. \n\nPaul Lüpfert Quintet © Kimberly Jüschke\nDas Quintett rund um den Posaunisten Paul Lüpfert ist eine neue Jazz-Formation des Bandleaders. \nPaul Lüpfert ist ein aktiver Musiker in den Jazzszenen Kölns und des Ruhrgebiets. Er war Teil des Bundesjazzorchesters und wurde mit dem Folkwang Preis Jazz 2023 ausgezeichnet.\nIn seinen eigens für diese Formation komponierten Stücken vereint er Kompositionstechniken und Klangideale moderner Musik mit Formen und Harmonien des Mainstream-Jazz. Dabei sind die Musik von Charlie Haden und Richie Beirach wichtige Vorbilder.\nEs gibt Stücke\, die hauptsächlich von der Komposition leben\, sowie andere\, die stark auf Improvisation basieren. Hier profitiert die Band besonders von den hervorragenden Spieler*innen und individuellen Musiker*innen\, die es schaffen\, einen homogenen und dennoch einzigartigen Bandsound zu kreieren.\nDie Liebe zum weichen und gleichzeitig kraftvollen Klang der Posaune kommt in jedem Stück zum Ausdruck. The four musicians from Cologne have developed a common voice through numerous sessions together. Mutual trust leads to a way of playing that suggests an organism of its own that reacts at lightning speed to changes and impulses. In this way\, the band creates long\, dense arcs of tension in which noisy elements meet theatrical moments. Clear decisions lead to surprises\, so that the meta-instrument Dog Soup creates an individual understanding of beauty. \n\nThe quintet around trombonist Paul Lüpfert is a new jazz formation by the bandleader.\nPaul Lüpfert is an active musician in the jazz scenes of Cologne and the Ruhr region. He was part of the Bundesjazzorchester and was awarded the Folkwang Prize Jazz 2023.\nIn his pieces composed especially for this formation\, he combines compositional techniques and sound ideals of modern music with forms and harmonies of mainstream jazz. The music of Charlie Haden and Richie Beirach are important role models.\nThere are pieces that live mainly from the composition\, as well as others that are strongly based on improvisation. Here\, the band benefits in particular from the outstanding players and individual musicians who manage to create a homogeneous yet unique band sound.\nThe love for the soft yet powerful sound of the trombone is expressed in every piece. In combination with the trumpet\, a rather rare band constellation is created that skillfully exploits the similarities between the two brass instruments as well as their differences in pitch\, sound and playing style.
