Degenhardt\n2020 war für alle ein besonderes Jahr. Covid-19 zwang die meisten Menschen\, einen Gang zurückzuschalten und war für viele trotz aller Einschränkungen eine willkommene Gelegenheit\, die eigene Arbeit aus der Vogelperspektive zu betrachten.\nAus dem daraus resultierenden Wunsch nach Vereinfachung begannen die Kölner IMPAKT-Mitglieder Etienne Nillesen und Stefan Schönegg als Duo zu arbeiten: Langsame und leise Improvisationsmusik\, ein intimer Dialog zwischen der Snare Drum und dem Kontrabass begann sich zu entwickeln.\nNillesen und Schönegg arbeiten seit Jahren zusammen\, vor allem in Schöneggs „Enso“-Ensembles\, die reduktive Strategien im Raum zwischen Improvisation und Komposition erkunden. Mit Michael Thieke haben sie einen Partner für ihre musikalische Forschung gefunden: Der in Berlin lebende Klarinettist\, Komponist und Performer erforscht die Minutien von Klang\, Klangfarbe und Geräusch\, mit einem besonderen Interesse an Mikrotonalität und verwandten Klangphänomenen. Die Qualität der Langsamkeit sind ein weiterer Bereich seiner Forschung.\nFür Nillesen steht die Snare Drum im Mittelpunkt seiner künstlerischen Praxis. Mit einem instrumentalen und physisch-performativen Ansatz erforscht er die Grenzen der natürlichen Akustik der kleinen Trommel\, wobei er sowohl konventionelle Spieltechniken als auch erweiterte Techniken und Präparationen einsetzt. Seine Arbeit umfasst Elemente der konzeptionellen und spontanen Komposition\, der strukturierten Improvisation\, der Performance und der Klangkunst.\nAls Kontrabassist\, Komponist und Improvisator interessiert sich Schönegg für Reduktion\, Wiederholung und lange Entwicklungsbögen. Covid-19 forced most people to shift down a gear and\, despite all the limitations\, was a welcome opportunity for many to take a bird’s eye view of their own work.\nOut of the resulting desire to simplify\, Cologne-based IMPAKT members Etienne Nillesen and Stefan Schönegg began working as a duo: Slow and quiet improvisational music\, an intimate dialogue between the snare drum and the double bass began to develop.\nNillesen and Schönegg have been working together for years\, especially in Schönegg’s „Enso“ ensembles\, which explore reductive strategies in the space between improvisation and composition. In Michael Thieke\, they have found a partner in crime for their musical research: The Berlin-based clarinetist\, composer and performer explores the minutiae of sound\, timbre and noise\, with a particular interest in microtonality and related sound phenomena. The qualities of slowness are another area of his research.\nFor Nillesen\, the snare drum is central to his artistic practice. Using an instrumental and physical approach\, he explores the limits of the snare drum’s natural acoustics\, employing both conventional playing techniques and extended techniques and preparations. His work incorporates elements of conceptual and spontaneous composition\, structured improvisation\, performance\, and sound art.\nAs a double bassist\, composer and improviser\, Schönegg is interested in reduction\, repetition and long arcs of development. In doing so\, an organic liveliness away from the conceptual is important to him. \n
