DESCRIPTION:  \nein Geburtstagsempfang mit Musik von Paulo Álvares\, Vincent Royer\nund weiteren Freund*innen und Studierenden der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln\nDas Geburtstagskonzert beginnt gegen 11 Uhr – Eintritt frei\n\n(english: see below) \nWeitere Informationen zu den Preisen\, Karten-Reservierungen und den Öffnungszeiten finden Sie hier.\n\nSeit 1988 gehört der brasilianische Pianist und Komponist Paulo Álvares zum LOFT\, ja er spielte schon im Loft als der offizielle Konzertbetrieb noch gar nicht begonnen hatte: als Begleiter meiner Flötenklasse während meiner Zeit an der Kölner Musikhochschule.\n1991 gewann er mit einer Aufnahme aus dem LOFT den 1. Preis beim Wettbewerb Musik kreativ und ist seit Beginn unserer Konzerttätigkeit 1989 mit seinen Projekten ein fester Bestandteil unseres Programms.\nWir gratulieren ihm herzlich zu seinem 65. Geburtstag und wünschen uns noch viele Jahre mit seiner Musik im LOFT. \n\nPaulo Álvares\, 1997 @LOFT © Hyou Vielz\nPaulo Álvares (geboren 1960 in Belo Horizonte\, Brasilien) studierte Klavier bei Caio Pagano an der Universität São Paulo (ebenso Kammermusik und Neue Musik)\, bei Steven de Groote in Texas (TCU)  und mit einem DAAD-Stipendium bei Aloys Kontarsky in Köln. 1990 gewann er im Rahmen der Darmstädter Ferienkurse den Kranichsteiner Musikpreis\, 1991 den 1. Preis des Wettbewerbs Musik kreativ. In den folgenden Jahren forschte er am Pariser IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) über Beziehungen zwischen Klavier und Live-Elektronik.\nÁlvares\, der weltweit als Solist und Kammermusiker auftritt\, widmet sich der Neuen Musik\, der Improvisation\, der Klassik und dem Repertoire des 20. Jahrhunderts.\nEr ist seit vielen Jahren der Hauspianist des WDR Sinfonieorchesters und Gürzenich Orchesters und arbeitete u.A. mit der Musikfabrik\, dem Ensemble Noamnesia in Chicago\, Percorso Ensemble in Sao Paulo und dem Het Spectral Ensemble in Ghent.\nBei bedeutenden Festivals wie Wien Modern\, Triennale und Achtbrücken Festival in Köln\, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik\, Musica Straßburg und Musica Nova São Paulo ist er ein gern gesehener Gast.\nÁlvares kann zudem auf enge Zusammenarbeiten mit bedeutenden Komponisten und Dirigenten verweisen (u. a. Seymon Bychkov\, Helmut Lachenmann\, Mauricio Kagel\, Luciano Berio\, Karlheinz Stockhausen Tristan Murail\, Gerhard Stäbler\, Jonathan Harvey\, Dieter Schnebel\, Philippe Manoury\, Hans Zender\, Jonathan Nott und Peter Eötvös).\nUnter seinen zahlreichen CD-Veröffentlichungen findet sich u. a. das Gesamtwerk für Klavier von Mauricio Kagel und Gerhard Stäbler.\nEr ist Professor für Improvisation und Klavier an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln\, war von 2003 bis 2020 Coordinate Professor in Portugal und ist in den USA\, Asien und Südamerika mit Masterclasses tätig. \n\n\na birthday reception with music by Paulo Álvares\, Vincent Royer\nand other friends and students from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln \n\nconcert starts approx. 11 a.m. – free admission\n\n\nFurther information about prices\, ticket reservations and our opening times can be found here. \n\n\nBrazilian pianist and composer Paulo Álvares has been part of LOFT since 1988\, and he was already playing at LOFT before the official concert series had even begun: as accompanist for my flute class during my time at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.\nIn 1991\, he won first prize in the Musik kreativ competition with a recording from the LOFT\, and his projects have been an integral part of our program since we began our concert activities in 1989. \nWe congratulate him warmly on his 65th birthday and look forward to many more years of his music at the LOFT. \n\nPaulo Álvares (born in 1960 in Belo Horizonte\, Brazil) studied piano with Caio Pagano at the University of São Paulo (as well as chamber music and contemporary music)\, with Steven de Groote in Texas (TCU)\, and with Aloys Kontarsky in Cologne on a DAAD scholarship. In 1990\, he won the Kranichstein Music Prize at the Darmstadt Summer Courses\, and in 1991\, he won first prize in the Musik kreativ competition. In the following years\, he conducted research at IRCAM (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) in Paris on the relationship between piano and live electronics.\nÁlvares\, who performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician\, is dedicated to new music\, improvisation\, classical music\, and the repertoire of the 20th century.\nHe has been the resident pianist of the WDR Symphony Orchestra and the Gürzenich Orchestra for many years and has worked with the Musikfabrik\, the Noamnesia Ensemble in Chicago\, the Percorso Ensemble in Sao Paulo\, and the Het Spectral Ensemble in Ghent\, among others.\nHe is a welcome guest at major festivals such as Wien Modern\, Triennale\, and Achtbrücken Festival in Cologne\, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik\, Musica Strasbourg\, and Musica Nova São Paulo.\nÁlvares has also worked closely with important composers and conductors (including Seymon Bychkov\, Helmut Lachenmann\, Mauricio Kagel\, Luciano Berio\, Karlheinz Stockhausen\, Tristan Murail\, Gerhard Stäbler\, Jonathan Harvey\, Dieter Schnebel\, Philippe Manoury\, Hans Zender\, Jonathan Nott\, and Peter Eötvös).\nHis numerous CD releases include the complete works for piano by Mauricio Kagel and Gerhard Stäbler.\nHe is professor of improvisation and piano at the Cologne University of Music and Dance\, was coordinate professor in Portugal from 2003 to 2020\, and gives masterclasses in the USA\, Asia\, and South America.
