Nichts\, könnte man meinen und sich auf ein garantiert herausragendes Konzertereignis freuen. Ebenso aber könnte man hymnisch rufen: Alles! Denn womöglich liegt gerade im Unwägbaren die wahre Vorfreude auf einen virtuosen Feinmotoriker\, der als einer der einfallsreichsten und abenteuerlichsten Schlagzeuger seiner Generation gilt.\nLange spielte Ballard im Trio von Brad Mehldau (mit Larry Grenadier)\, ebenso arbeitete er mit Avishai Cohen und Chick Corea. Ähnlich intensiv sprudeln in seinen eigenen Trios mit Mark Turner/Larry Grenadier bzw. Lionel Loueke/Miguel Zenón die harmonisch verblüffenden Ideen – und die hinrei0ende Interaktion mit Robert Landfermann im Trio von Jorge Rossy hebt mitunter ins Magische ab. \nMit „Fairgrounds“ weitete Ballard seinen Blick auf Rock\, Pop\, Electronica und afrikanische Musik\, was ihn zum spannenden Partner für Trompeter Hermon Mehari aus Kansas City machen dürfte.
