Sein Großvater war Schmied und Fiedler\, aber auch Komponist. Im Alter von fünf Jahren begann Norvald auf dem Klavier zu improvisieren und entdeckte sowohl die weißen als auch die schwarzen Tasten. Bald nahm er eine klassische Ausbildung auf\, doch nach einigen Jahren fand er Gefallen an Blues\, Jazz und Improvisation. Nach seiner musikalischen Ausbildung am Gymnasium studierte er intensiv Jazzklavier am Musikkonservatorium in Stavanger und Trondheim und machte später seinen Masterabschluss an der renommierten Norwegischen Musikakademie in Oslo.\nIm Laufe der Jahre war Dahl an vielen internationalen Projekten beteiligt\, wie seinem eigenen Quartett\, dem Norvald Dahl Trio mit Jon Irabagon\, dem Sextett Space Riders (mit Kike Perdomo)\, dem Wayne Brasel Quartet und Organic Chamber (mit Mats Eilertsen & Jon Irabagon).\nAußerdem hat er zusammen mit dem amerikanischen Schlagzeuger Colin Stranahan eine Duo-Aufnahme namens The Vision gemacht.\nSein neuestes Projekt ist das Klaviertrio Pandemic Solution mit der Bassistin Ingebrigt Håker Flaten und dem Schlagzeuger Håkon Mjåset Johansen\, mit denen er kürzlich in Norwegen auf Tournee war und ihr erstes Album aufgenommen hat (Januar 2023). \nWährend seines Masterstudiums an der Akademie in Oslo begann Dahl mit der Arbeit an einem Soloklavierprojekt\, aus dem die Aufnahme Flying High hervorging\, die er bei seinem eigenen Plattenlabel Blåmann Records veröffentlichte.\nIm Jahr 2020 unternahm er eine Solo-Klavier-Tournee in Norwegen und hat das Projekt seitdem weiterentwickelt. Sein letzter Auftritt war im Auditorio de Tenerife während des Internationalen Jazztages 2022.\nDie Musik ist von zeitgenössischen Komponisten beeinflusst und ist sowohl experimentell als auch melodisch\, ausdrucksstark und manchmal hypnotisch. Es wird auch Einflüsse aus norwegischer Volksmusik\, Pop und Jazz geben\, die Dahl sorgfältig zu einer fesselnden Darbietung vermischt. \n„Mit Flying High hat der Pianist Norvald Dahl eine Reihe von wunderschönen und sehr persönlichen Klavierimprovisationen aufgenommen. His grandfather was a blacksmith and a fiddler\, and also a composer. At the age of five Norvald started improvising on the piano\, discovering both white and black keys. He soon took up classical training\, but after a few years he found blues\, jazz\, and improvisation more to his liking. After musical studies in High School\, he studied jazz piano intensively at the music conservatory in both Stavanger and Trondheim\, and later performed his Master ́s degree at the highly acclaimed Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo.\nOver the years Dahl has been involved in many international projects; like his own quartet; Norvald Dahl trio with Jon Irabagon\, the sextet Space Riders (with Kike Perdomo)\, Wayne Brasel Quartet\, and Organic Chamber (with Mats Eilertsen & Jon Irabagon).\nHe also did a duo recording called „The Vision“\, together with American drummer Colin Stranahan.\nHis latest project is the piano trio „Pandemic Solution“\, with bass player Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and drummer Håkon Mjåset Johansen\, whom he recently toured with in Norway and recorded their first album (January 2023). \nDuring his masters at the academy in Oslo\, Dahl started working on a solo piano-project that resulted in the recording Flying High which he released on his own record label Blåmann Records.\nIn 2020 he did a solo piano- tour in Norway\, and he has since been developing the project further. His latest performance was in Auditorio de Tenerife during the International jazz day 2022.\nThe music is influenced by contemporary composers and is both experimental and melodic\, expressive and at times hypnotic. There will also be influences from Norwegian folk music\, pop and jazz\, all carefully blended by Dahl into a captivating performance. \n„With Flying High\, pianist Norvald Dahl has recorded a set of beautiful and highly personal piano improvisations.  At times\, the crystalline and patient statements sound like could be an homage to the unique meeting of mountains and sea that takes place in his native region of Møre og Romsdal\, Norway.  Fans of creative solo piano  and audiophile recordings will surely add this to their list of favorites.!\nJonathan Kreisberg\, Guitarist and composer
