Ich war also von Anfang an von dieser Musik umgeben\, habe aber zunächst Rockmusik gespielt.“\nMit dreizehn hat Mathieu sich dann den Jazzvirus in Form von Art Blakey einfangen\, den er heute noch verehrt. Geprägt aber hat ihn die Kölner Szene. „Als Jungstudent bin ich dann nach Köln gekommen\, während ich noch mein Abitur gemacht habe“\, erinnert er sich. „Ich wollte unbedingt spielen und da war Köln die beste Wahl. An der Hochschule studiere ich bei Jonas Burgwinkel\, der ein super Lehrer ist.“\nIn der Kölner Szene konnte Clement dann ziemlich bald Fuß fassen – „man wird sehr schnell akzeptiert\, aber auch gefordert“ -\, heute spielt er unter anderem im JugendJazzOrchester NRW. Mit seinem 20. Geburtstag entstand der Wunsch\, eine eigene Band zu gründen. \n\nhttps://www.mathieuclement.net/\n\n\nIm Februar 2022 nahm Mathieu – gerade mal 20 Jahre jung – im LOFT sein Debut-Album auf\, welches 2023 bei Double Moon Records / Jazz Thing Next Generation erscheint.\nSeine Musik erinnert an Kompositionen von Joe Henderson\, Wayne Shorter oder Thelonious Monk und fällt in die Sparte Modern Jazz.\nMit Coming Home setzt sich Mathieu mit sich selbst auseinander und versucht\, durch die Musik einen Eindruck seiner Person wiederzugeben. Im Vordergrund stehen die Interaktion und das gemeinsame\, spontane Gestalten zwichen den Musikern.\nDer Jazz ist bei dieser jungen Truppe\, die bis auf den Gaststar Matthias Schriefl allesamt noch unter dreißig sind\, jedenfalls in den besten Händen. He was born in Luxembourg\, where he first picked up the drum sticks at the tender age of seven.\n„My father is a church organist\, but he is also a jazz pianist\,“ Mathieu Clement says. „My grandfather is a photographer and also a big jazz fan who has photographed many jazz legends. So I was surrounded by this music from the beginning\, but I played rock music first.“\nAt thirteen\, Mathieu then caught the jazz virus in the form of Art Blakey\, whom he still adores today. But the Cologne scene left its mark on him. „I came to Cologne as a young student while I was still doing my A-levels\,“ he recalls. „I really wanted to play and Cologne was the best choice. At the university I study with Jonas Burgwinkel\, who is a super teacher.“\nClement was then able to gain a foothold in the Cologne scene fairly soon – „you are accepted very quickly\, but also challenged“ – and today he plays in the JugendJazzOrchester NRW\, among others. With his 20th birthday came the desire to found his own band. \nIn February 2022\, Mathieu recorded his first album in the LOFT\, which will be released in 2023 by Double Moon Records / Jazz Thing Next Generation.\nHis music is reminiscent of compositions by Joe Henderson\, Wayne Shorter or Thelonious Monk and falls into the Modern Jazz category.\nWith Coming Home\, Mathieu deals with himself and tries to give an impression of himself through the music. The focus is on the interaction and the joint\, spontaneous creation between the musicians.\nIn any case\, jazz is in the best of hands with this young troupe\, all of whom are still under thirty except for guest star Matthias Schriefl. Mathieu Clement’s sextet celebrates its dance between tradition and modernity with great enthusiasm. \n  \n
