Doch ihre isländischen Wurzeln sind nicht die einzige Gemeinsamkeit. Als Absolventen der Kölner Musikhochschule und Preisträger des Förderstipendiums der Stadt Köln (Horst und Gretl Will-Stipendium) sind sie jeder für sich durch zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen und Konzerte (etliche davon im Kölner LOFT) mit unterschiedlichen Formationen umtriebiger Bestandteil der nationalen Jazzszene.Als Duo erforschen Schmid und Duppler den Klang ihrer entfernten Heimat auf der Basis traditionellen Liedguts. Diese bilden den Startpunkt für Komposition und Arrangement sowie durch den Moment bestimmte Improvisation und Interaktion. But their Icelandic roots are not the only thing they share: as graduates of the Conservatory in Cologne and award winners of the „Cologne Jazz Price“ (Horst und Gretl Will-Stipendium)\, each of the is part of the national jazz scene\, contributing numerous publications and playing concerts (many of them in Cologne’s LOFT) with different formations. \nAs a duo\, Schmid and Duppler explore the sound of their distant homeland based on traditional songs. These form the starting point for composition and arrangement as well as improvisation and interaction determined by the moment.
