Durch die frühe musikalische Prägung in Familie und Kindheit begann er ab einem Alter von sieben Jahren in verschiedenen Ensembles der städtischen Musikschule mitzuspielen.\nBesonders mit seinem älteren Bruder Alexander Weigand (geb. Knoll) musizierte er viel und entdeckte so auch schnell das Improvisieren für sich. Während Alexander mit der Posaune eine Basslinie spielte\, setzte Johannes freie Melodien\, von Klassik bis Blues\, darüber.. \nMit der Zeit entschloss er\, sich mehr und mehr dem Jazz zu widmen und nahm ab 2013 das erste Mal Einzelunterricht bei dem Jazz-Trompeter Karsten Brudy an der Musikschule Hildesheim. Seine bisher gesammelte praktische Erfahrung konnte er dort weiter ausbauen und auch mit theoretischem Wissen ergänzen. 2014 gründete Johannes dann das Jazz-Trio „Easy Moving“. \nEr spielte aber auch weiterhin viel klassische Musik und trat 2014 in das Niedersächsische Jugendsinfonieorchester ein. 2016 wurde er dann in das Landesjugendjazzorchester „Wind Machine“ aufgenommen und gewann im gleichen Jahr mit seiner Band „Easy Moving“ den Wettbewerb „Jugend Jazzt“ in Niedersachsen. \nIn den folgenden Jahren war er vor allem in der Hannoverschen Szene aktiv\, spielte dort in der „Tonband“ und war Aushilfe in der Big Band der Hochschule für Musik\, Theater und Medien. Ab Frühjahr 2017 nahm Johannes Unterricht bei dem Trompeter Benny Brown in Hamburg und gewann in diesem Jahr mit einem klassischen Blechbläserquintett den 1. Platz im Bundeswettbewerb Jugend Musiziert. \n2019 wurde er in das LaJazzO Brandenburg unter Leitung von Jiggs Wigham aufgenommen\, absolvierte sein Abitur am Gymnasium Andreanum Hildesheim und begann im Oktober sein Jazz-Trompeten-Studium bei Claus Stötter an der HfMT Hamburg. Im Jahr 2020 wurde er mit 19 Jahren Mitglied des Bundesjazzorchesters. Im Frühling 2021 gründete Johannes seine Band – das „Knollektiv“ – mit der er regelmäßig auf deutschen Bühnen zu hören ist. At age seven\, he put his early musical experience to use by playing in several ensembles with the local music school. \nJohannes spent a great deal of time making music with his older brother Alexander Weigand (born Knoll). Through this experience he discovered his passion for musical improvisation\, and with his brother playing the bassline on his trombone\, improvised melodies in different musical genres.\nSoon he dedicated more and more of his time to playing Jazz and\, in 2013\, began taking lessons with Jazz trumpet player Karsten Brudy at the local school for music in Hildesheim. Through his experience there he was able to continue adding to his already extensive skill set\, practically as well as in music theory. In 2014\, Johannes founded the Jazz-trio “Easy Moving”. \nJohannes also continued playing lots of classical music and joined the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Lower Saxony in 2014. In 2016 he was invited to join the Jazz Youth Orchestra of Lower Saxony “Wind Machine”. That same year he won the “Jugend Jazzt” competition with his band “Easy Moving” in Lower Saxony. \nOver the next few years he dove into the Hanover music scene and played in the “Tonband” and assisted the Big Band at the Hanover University of Music\, Drama and Media. Early 2017 Johannes began taking lessons from trumpet player Benny Brown in Hamburg. Later that year he won first place at the national competition “Jugend Musiziert” with a classical brass quintet. \n2019 Johannes was asked to play with the “LaJazzO”\, the Jazz Orchestra in Brandenburg\, under the direction of Jiggs Wigham. He also finished his German Secondary School Diploma (Abitur) at the Gymnasium Andreanum Hildesheim and got into the HfMT Hochschule für Musik und Theater (University of Music and Drama) in Hamburg\, where he has been studying jazz trumpet with Claus Stötter since October 2019. In 2020\, at the age of 19\, he became a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra. In spring 2021 Johannes founded his band – the “Knollektiv” – which can be heard regularly on German stages. He has been a scholarship holder of the “Oscar und Vera Ritterstiftung” since November 2021.
