Geburtstag im August 2021 war skeptisch\, als sich die damals 28-jährige\, fast allen völlig unbekannte Camille Émaille hinter ihr Schlagwerk zum Soloauftritt setzte. Vor allem das eher ältere\, männliche Free Jazz Publikum unterhielt sich zunächst fröhlich weiter. Doch nach einer Minute war kein Mucks mehr zu hören – alle starrten und lauschten gespannt den Klangkaskaden\, die Émaille erzeugte.\nAber ging das auch im Bandkontext? Am nächsten Tag haute sie das Publikum dann im Quartett mit Hans-Peter Hiby (sax)\, Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello) und Marino Pliakas (bass) schlichtweg um. Die Devise des Quartetts: fast forward. Ihre drei Mitspieler gönnten sich kaum Pausen\, trieben sich zu Höhenflügen\, ohne den Gesamtsound zu überfrachten. Bass und Cello waren im ständigen\, sich steigernden Dialog. At first\, especially the rather older\, male free jazz audience continued to entertain themselves happily. But after a minute\, not a sound was heard – everyone stared and listened intently to the cascades of sound Émaille was creating.\nBut did it work in a band context? The next day she simply blew the audience away in a quartet with Hans-Peter Hiby (sax)\, Fred Lonberg-Holm (cello) and Marino Pliakas (bass). The quartet’s motto: fast forward. The three players hardly allowed themselves any breaks\, driving each other to flights of fancy without overloading the overall sound. Bass and cello were in constant\, increasing dialogue. Hiby’s saxophone playing\, sometimes lyrical on the alto\, then stormy again on the tenor\, blended in seamlessly.\nAt the LOFT\, she can now be experienced with three quarters of this spectacular band. \n  \n
