Seit der Gründung des Ensembles im Jahr 2008 haben die vier Saxophonisten Frank Gratkowski\, Salim Javaid (bis 2023 Christian Weidner)\, Leonhard Huhn (bis 2018 Benjamin Weidekamp) und Florian Bergmann zu einer unverwechselbaren Klangsprache gefunden\, die sich durch künstlerische Kompromisslosigkeit und eine kontinuierliche musikalische Forschungsarbeit auszeichnet.\n\n\nhttp://www.fouralto.com/ \nKollektive Improvisationen verbinden sich mit den Kompositionen Gratkowskis. Dabei kommen unterschiedlichste Techniken zum Einsatz wie z.B. Spektralanalysen\, intervallische mikrotonale Konzepte\, diverse erweiterte Spieltechniken sowie flirrende\, dichte Klangbänder\, die durch die Multiplikation instrumentenbedingter Mehrklänge entstehen. In neuester Zeit inkorporieren sie zudem Perkussionsinstrumente wie Gongs und Klangschalen\, die das Ausdrucksspektrum des Ensembles erweitern und bereichern.\nEine wichtige Rolle spielt die Konzeption einer räumlichen Musik. Ermöglicht es der Veranstaltungsort\, positionieren sich die Musiker um das Publikum herum\, um diesem einen multidirektionalen Musikerlebnis zu vermitteln. \nFo[u]r Alto spielte zahlreiche Konzerte in ganz Europa\, darunter bei den Portraitkonzerten von Frank Gratkowski Jeunesse Spezial 2014 im Wiener Porgy & Bess und Trias 2018 im Kölner LOFT\, ebenso wie beim Acht Brücken Festival Köln\, bei der Berliner Serious Series\, bei der Panakustika Wiesbaden\, beim Saxophonfestival Stuttgart\, beim EuroMicroFest Freiburg und beim Blurred Edges Festival Hamburg. \nDas Ensemble erhielt im Jahr 2021 Stipendien des Musikfonds und des Berliner Kultursenats\, mit deren Hilfe es mehrere intensive Arbeitsphasen und eine CD-Produktion durchführen konnte. 2020 konnte mit Unterstützung des Musikfonds und des Kulturamts Köln das Oktett-Konzert Fo[u]r Alto & Strings  in der Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in Kollaboration mit Lola Rubio (Violine)\, Vincent Royer (Viola)\, Elisabeth Coudoux (Violoncello) und Kathrin Pechlof (Harfe) realisiert werden. Anlässlich seines zehnjährigen Bestehens präsentierte das Ensemble 2019 die Konzertreihe Zehn Jahre Fo[u]r Alto\, die mit Unterstützung der Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Europa und Kultur im ausland\, in der Wabe und im Jazzkeller 69 stattfand. Im Herbst 2012 veröffentlichten sie ihre erste CD 4 Compositions by Frank Gratkowski auf dem englischen Label Leo Records. \nMit Unterstützung der Berliner Senatsverwaltung für Europa und Kultur konnte nun die zweite Veröffentlichung realisiert werden. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrank Gratkowski – alto saxophone\, composition\nSalim Javaid – alto saxophone\nLeonhard Huhn – alto saxophone\nFlorian Bergmann – alto saxophone \nInformation about prices\, ticket reservationsand our opening times can be found here.\nFo[u]r Alto is the quadrupling of the alto saxophone as a unified body of sound. Since the ensemble was founded in 2008\, the four saxophonists Frank Gratkowski\, Salim Javaid (until 2023 Christian Weidner)\, Leonhard Huhn (until 2018 Benjamin Weidekamp) and Florian Bergmann have found a distinctive sound language characterised by artistic uncompromisingness and continuous musical research. \nhttp://www.fouralto.com/ \nCollective improvisations combine with Gratkowski’s compositions. A wide variety of techniques are employed\, such as spectral analysis\, intervallic microtonal concepts\, various extended playing techniques\, and shimmering\, dense bands of sound created by the multiplication of instrumental multiphonics. Recently\, they have also incorporated percussion instruments such as gongs and singing bowls\, which expand and enrich the ensemble’s expressive spectrum.\nThe conception of spatial music plays an important role. If the venue makes it possible\, the musicians position themselves around the audience to give them a multi-directional musical experience. \nFo[u]r Alto has played numerous concerts throughout Europe\, including at the Frank Gratkowski Jeunesse Spezial 2014 portrait concerts at Vienna’s Porgy & Bess and Trias 2018 at Cologne’s LOFT\, as well as at the Acht Brücken Festival Cologne\, Berlin’s Serious Series\, Panakustika Wiesbaden\, the Saxophonfestival Stuttgart\, EuroMicroFest Freiburg and the Blurred Edges Festival Hamburg. \nIn 2021\, the ensemble received grants from the Musikfonds and the Berlin Senate for Culture\, with the help of which it was able to carry out several intensive work phases and a CD production. In 2020\, with the support of the Musikfonds and the Kulturamt Köln\, the octet concert Fo[u]r Alto & Strings was realised at the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter in collaboration with Lola Rubio (violin)\, Vincent Royer (viola)\, Elisabeth Coudoux (violoncello) and Kathrin Pechlof (harp). To mark its tenth anniversary\, the ensemble presented the concert series Ten Years of Fo[u]r Alto in 2019\, which took place at ausland\, Wabe and Jazzkeller 69 with the support of the Berlin Senate Department for Europe and Culture. In autumn 2012 they released their first CD 4 Compositions by Frank Gratkowski on the English label Leo Records. \nWith the support of the Berlin Senate Department for Europe and Culture\, the second release could now be realised.
