Die Band Woodism (ehemals Woodoism) entspricht dieser Idee voll und ganz: Wie auf einem gespannten Netz bewegen sich die vier Musiker souverän und äusserst wandelbar durch ihre Kompositionen\, das harmonische Zusammenspiel immer perfekt aufeinander abgestimmt. Mal erstaunen ihre jugendliche Lässigkeit und innere Ruhe\, die sich auf das Publikum direkt überträgt – dann wieder besticht ihr dezenter Humor und die ansteckende Spiellaune. \nhttps://www.woodism.ch/ \nNachdem das Quartett sich 2014 zusammengefunden hatte\, veröffentlichten Florian Weiss (tb) Linus Amstad (as)\, Valentin v. Fischer (b) und Philipp Leibundgut (dr) drei Jahre später ihr Debütalbum Woodoism. 2019 folgt beim deutschen Label Neuklang die zweite Scheibe Refugium. Die Fachpresse lobt das „magische Gebräu“ und auch den Mut\, sich mit ihren Eigenkompositionen irgendwo zwischen Cool und Free Jazz zu bewegen. Die Band schafft es\, sich nie aus ihrer eigenen Dynamik bringen zu lassen und hat sich bereits früh von allem freigeschwommen\, was man ihnen als Stempel aufdrücken könnte. Ihre musikalischen Geschichten erzählen sie mit einem so differenzierten und unterhaltsamen Klangspektrum\, dass man völlig in ihren Bann gerät und gar nicht mehr aufhören kann\, ihnen zuzuhören.  Nach Alternate Reality im Jahr 2021 legt die Band im Herbst 2024 nun mit Inner Garden ihr viertes Album vor\, veröffentlicht bei Nils Wograms Label NWog Records. \nSeit 2020 wird Woodism von der Prioritären Jazzförderung von Pro Helvetia unterstützt. Die Band ist Preisträger des Jazzpreis‘ der Zürcher Kantonalbank und dessen Publikumspreises 2018 und tourte u.a. bereits durch die Schweiz\, Österreich\, Deutschland\, Italien\, Ungarn\, Russland\, die Niederlande\, Chile und Argentinien. \nWenn ein völlig neues Stück Musik schon beim ersten Hören den spontanen Eindruck auslöst\, man würde es seit Jahrzehnten kennen\, ist das ein seltener Glücksfall. Auf „Alternate Reality“\, das dritte Album der schweizerischen Band Woodism um den Posaunisten Florian Weiss\, trifft das zweifelsfrei zu. Die zehn mit Posaune\, Saxofon\, Kontrabass und Schlagzeug sowie in ausgewählten Momenten mit Flöte und Glockenspiel eingespielten Tracks wirken so vertraut wie ein warmer Mantel im Schneesturm. The band Woodism (formerly Woodoism) fully corresponds to this idea: the four musicians move through their compositions as if on a taut net\, their harmonious interplay always perfectly coordinated. At times\, their youthful nonchalance and inner calm\, which is directly transferred to the audience\, is astonishing – at other times\, their subtle humor and infectious playing mood are captivating. \nhttps://www.woodism.ch/ \nAfter the quartet came together in 2014\, Florian Weiss (tb)\, Linus Amstad (as)\, Valentin v. Fischer (b) and Philipp Leibundgut (dr) released their debut album Woodoism three years later. The second album Refugium followed in 2019 on the German label Neuklang. The trade press praised the “magical brew” and also the courage to move somewhere between cool and free jazz with their original compositions. \nThe band never manages to lose their own momentum and freed themselves early on from anything that could be described as a label. They tell their musical stories with such a differentiated and entertaining sound spectrum that you fall under their spell and can’t stop listening to them. After Alternate Reality in 2021\, the band is now presenting their fourth album Inner Garden in fall 2024\, which will be released on Nils Wog’s label NWog Records. \nWoodism has been supported by Pro Helvetia’s Priority Jazz Fund since 2020. The band won the Zürcher Kantonalbank Jazz Prize and its Audience Award in 2018 and has already toured Switzerland\, Austria\, Germany\, Italy\, Hungary\, Russia\, the Netherlands\, Chile and Argentina. \nIt is a rare stroke of luck when a completely new piece of music gives you the spontaneous impression that you have known it for decades. This is undoubtedly the case with “Alternate Reality”\, the third album by the Swiss band Woodism led by trombonist Florian Weiss. The ten tracks recorded with trombone\, saxophone\, double bass and drums\, as well as flute and glockenspiel in selected moments\, seem as familiar as a warm coat in a snowstorm.
