DESCRIPTION:Ernst Reijseger – Cello \n\nEine Begegnung mit dem Cellisten Ernst Reijseger ist immer ein Erlebnis- kaum ein Musiker vermag als improvisierender Musiker so zu faszinieren\, wie der Amsterdamer Musiker- ob mit sardischen Sängern\, mit afrikanischen Musikern\, dem legendären Trio Clusone\, dem Trio mit Gerry Hemingway und Georg Graewe- immer fasziniert seine eigene Sprache auf dem Cello- sonst nicht gerade ein bevorzugtes Instrument der improvisierten Musik. So wundert es nicht\, dass der weltberühmte Cellist YO Yo Ma sich im Concertgebouw in Amsterdam ein Duo Konzert mit ihm im gewünscht hat. ER gehört zu den großen Grenzgängern der Musik. Auf dem dazu prädestinierten Label Winter & Winter veröffentlichte er in den letzten Jahren bereits sechs CDs\, die unter verschiedenen thematischen Gesichtspunkten Klassik\, Jazz und avantgardistische Kammermusik zusammenführen. \nGeboren im niederländischen Bussum\, begann er mit 8 Jahren auf dem Cello zu spielen und studierte zunächst das klassische Repertoire seines Instrumentes. Spätestens seit Mitte der 70er Jahre richtete sich sein Interesse jedoch vorwiegend auf Improvisation. In der niederländischen Free-Jazz-Szene um Han Bennink und Misha Mengelberg\, und mit Musikern wie Derek Bailey\, Michael Moore oder Gerry Hemingway begann er einen Stil zu entwickeln\, der zwar im Free-Jazz verbreitet war\, den so aber bisher noch niemand auf dem Cello gespielt hatte. Die klassischen Konnotationen des Instrumentes begegneten Elementen aus der Neuen Musik\, folkloristischen Traditionen aus Sardinien oder Afrika und dem befreienden Lebensgefühl des Free Jazz. So war in den letzten Jahren jedes neue Reijseger-Album ein überraschendes Erlebnis. \nCellist Ernst Reijseger (1954) started to play the cello at 8 years old. Early in his life he became fascinated by the diverse musical formes and styles available for him at the time. His teachers were Jan Olivier\, Anner Bijlsma and René van Ast. In 1974 Anner Bijlsma advised Reijseger to stop following his classes and the Amsterdam conservatory\, thus stimulating Ernst to follow his own path. He played and recorded a.o. with: Burton Greene (1969)\, Sean Bergin (1975)\, Martin van Duynhoven\, Derek Bailey\, Alan Purves and Franky Douglas\, Trilok Gurtu and Yo Yo Ma. Was member of the Theo Loevendie Consort\, the Guus Janssen Septet\, the Arcado Stringtrio\, Trio Clusone with Michael Moore and Han Bennink\, Misha Mengelberg’s Instant Composers Pool\, the Gerry Hemingway quintet\, Trio with trumpetist Eric Vloeimans and guitarist Anton Goudsmit. 
In 1985 he received the Boy Edgar prize\, an award highly regarded by potential Dutch audience and highly appreciated by its receiver. In 1995 he received the Bird Award at the Northsea Jazz Festival. \nErnst Reijseger often playes soloconcerts. He playes duo with pianist Franco d‘ Andrea\, clarinettist-soprano saxophonist Louis Sclavis\, accordeonist\, banjo\, guitar\,mandoline\, kaval\, and pedal steel guitar-player Stian Carstensen\, duo and trio with masterpianist Simon Nabatov and trio with the Amsterdam String Trio\, trio with Stian Carstensen and drummer Jarle Vespestadt\, trio with Senegalese singer Mola Sylla and Senegalese percussionist Serigne Gueye\, quartet with bassplayer Mats Eilertsen\, clarinet-saxophonist Fredrik Ljungkvist and drummer Thomas Strønen. He regulary gives concerts with drummer percussionist Alan Purves in duo or in combination with singers from Sardenia\, the Tenores e Concordu de Orosei. \nProjects Ernst Reijseger participated in are for instance: A Tango/PostTango with WDR-bigband Köln With Music of pianist/composer/director Gerardo Gandini and bandoneonist Nestor Marconi and Barana & Co with Dutch and Turkish musicians and a drummer/percussionist from Iran. \nIn collaboration with Theatergroep Flint he made the production ‚Korreltjie Korreltjie Sand‘\, based on the poetry of south-african Ingrid Jonker. \nHis written music is performed by cellist Larissa Groeneveld and pianist Frank van de Laar with Reijseger as soloist. (cd: Do You Still\, label Winter & Winter). Reijseger played solo with the Metropole Orchestra\, in a project about the filmmusic of Ennio Morricone. Compositions in collaboration with copmposer/arranger Martin Fondse. \nErnst Reijseger writes music for film (a.o. ‚The White Diamond‘\, ‚The Wild Blue Yonder‘ and ‚Rescue Dawn‘ by Werner Herzog)) and documentaries(a.o. ‘The Unforbidden City’ by Floris-Jan van Luyn). At this moment Reijseger performs a ‘concertant’ version of the music\, based on Werner Herzog’s films. The title both of the cd and the concert is: Requiem for a Dying Planet \nAt the moment he performs a concertant version with the same singers who particapated in the making of two Werner Herzog movies. The cd and performance are called Requiem for a Dying Planet. \nReijseger also likes to play for children\, in schools and theatres\, and teaches at Amsterdam conservatory and gives occasional celloworkshops \nHis music is released by the label Winter & Winter \nwww.winterandwinter.com
