SUMMARY:Arne Huber Quartet - Deutschlandfunk Mitschnitt
DESCRIPTION:Domenic Landolf – bcl\, tsax\nRainer Böhm – p\nArne Huber – bass\nJochen Rückert – dr \n\nA bass player as band leader is still quite uncommon. Arne Huber proves that there is no musical reason for this. “Pearls” is the second album of the Arne Huber Quartet\, after “Jordan” (2009). On “Pearls”\, which consists mainly of original compositions by Huber\, he again explores the depth of modern jazz\, with great skill and a lot of musical sensitivity. The bass player is joined in this endeavour by his band colleagues Domenic Landolf (bcl\, tsax)\, Rainer Böhm (p)\, and Jochen Rückert (dr). \n\nArne Huber (double bass) \nBorn 1977 in Offenburg (southern Germany)\, Arne Huber studied both jazz and classical bass. His comprehensive musical education is detectable in both\, his playing and his compositions. Apart from his quartet Arne Huber is very in demand as a sideman and active in several projects. With the band L14\,16\, together with his band colleague Rainer Böhm\, Huber won the 1st price at the „24th International Hoeilaart Jazz Contest 2002“ as well as\, on several occasions\, the »Vierteljahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik«. With the Felix Fromm Sextett Huber won the 1st price at the Jazz Festival in Gexto (Spain). Huber has appeared on over 25 records and played at prestigious festivals like the London Jazz Festival\, Jazz Baltica\, and Cully Jazz Festival. He now lives in Freiburg and teaches double bass at the conservatory in Mannheim (Germany). \nwww.arnehuber.de \nDomenic Landolf (tenor saxophone\, bass clarinet) \nBorn 1969 in Bern (Switzerland) Domenic Landolf first started out playing the piano. He began playing saxophone at the age of 12 and studied at the Swiss Jazz School. Landolf has been and is still active in several projects\, among them Jorge Rossy Sextet\, Christof Stiefel’s Isorythm Orchestra and his own trio. He released the album “Wanderlust” (Pirouet) as the result of a composition scholarship from Pro Helvetia. Most recently he released the trio-CD entitled “New Brighton” (Pirouet) with Patrice Moret (b) and Dejan Terzic (dr). Since 2008 Domenic Landolf has been professor at the University of Basel. \nwww.domeniclandolf.com \nRainer Böhm (piano) \nBorn 1977 in Ravensburg (southern Germany)\, Rainer Böhm played piano from the early age of four and went on to study both classical and jazz piano\, in Mannheim\, Cologne and New York. Böhm has played in several formations both as a band leader––e.g. he released the record “Familia” with his own quartet and “Berlin – New York” together with saxophone player Ben Kraef––and as a sideman. He has won numerous prizes\, among them at the festival „Jazz Hoeilaart International Belgium“ (1st price\, solo & ensemble)\, 1st price at the competition “International Piano Solo”(Freiburg) and came in second twice at the „International Jazz Solo Piano Festival“ in Montreux. In 2010 Böhm won the Jazz-Preis Baden-Württemberg. Rainer Böhm teaches at conservatory in Mainz (Germany). \nde.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainer_Böhm_(Pianist) \n\nJochen Rückert (drums) \nBorn 1975 in Cologne where he studied for two years before moving to New York where he has been living ever since. Rückert has released two CDs with his own quartet (in 2014 “We Make The Rules” was released on Whirlwind Records) and is a very in-demand sideman. He is part of projects like Root 70\, the Marc Copeland Trio\, and the Kurt Rosenwinkel Band. Rückert works with rock musicans and releases electronic remixes under the project name Wolff Parkinson White. \nwww.jochenrueckert.net \n
