So haben wir in Chicago mit Han Bennink und Hamid Drake gespielt. Ich liebe seine Energie und seine klare Art Tenor und Klarinette zu spielen und auch seine Kompositionen : kurz und auf den Punkt. Der Klang von 2 Tenorsaxophonen hat mich immer fasziniert\, der schöne und singende sound einer unisono Linie – da haben wir große Beispiele in der Geschichte des Tenorsaxophons besonders aus Chicago. So habe ich Ken eingeladen um mit mir zusammenzuspielen. Wir werden auch neue eigene Kompositionen mit diesem Quartett aufführen“.\nAb Baars \nThere is a shocking vulnerability to Ab Baars’s saxophone ballads\, informed (to these ears) by Von’s 38th-chorus abstractions on some favorite standard\, Sonny Rollins’s sense of the grotesque\, and the writhing plasticity of Albert Ayler’s sound. But the net effect\, touching and garish\, painfully intimate\, raw and rude and beautiful\, is pure Ab Baars. Kevin Whitehead \nThe core trio of bassist Wilbert de Joode and drummer Martin van Duynhoven celebrated ten years together with Baars on this joyous and adventurous collection. Their chemistry is omnipresent\, with de Joode’s powerfully corporeal approach to the bass dovetailing nicely with van Duynhoven’s crisp\, precise drumming. Bill Barton \nKEN VANDERMARK\nFor the past 20 years\, Ken Vandermark has been exploring and expanding the possibilities of improvised and composed music. \nSince moving to Chicago in 1989\, he’s worked within a variety of contexts with many internationally renowned improving musicians. Currently\, the majority of his work has been directed toward the Vandermark 5\, Bridge 61\, the Peter Brotzmann Chicago Tentet\, FME\, Sonore\, the Nilssen-Love/Vandermark Duo\, the Territory Band and Free Fall.Norway \nHe was selected as a MacArthur Fellow in 1999. One of the „Chicagoans of the Year in the Arts\, 1994“ (Chicago Tribune\, January 1\, 1995) for the Vandermark Quartet.
