Ramamani zusammen. \nIn Deutschland wurde Ramamani bekannt durch die Zusammenarbeit des Ensembles Karnataka College of Percussion (KCP) mit Charlie Mariano beim Jazzfest Berlin 1983. Hier präsentierte sie ihre Kompositionen und begeisterte das Publikum mit ihrem virtuosen Gesang und ihren außergewöhnlichen rhythmischen Fähigkeiten. Weitere Stationen waren u.a. Moers Festival 1999\, Leverkusener Jazztage 2003 und RuhrTriennale 2007. \nAlle Musiker*innen dieses Tribute-Projektes arbeiteten persönlich mit Ramamani zusammen: \nRamesh Shotham war jahrzehntelang mit ihr verbunden als Mitglied des Ensembles Karnataka College of Percussion. \nSarah Buechi studierte zunächst bei Ramamani für ein Jahr südindischen Gesang und konzertierte mit ihr zusammen während eines weiteren Studienaufenthaltes. \nZoltan Lantos lebte jahrelang in Indien. Dort erweiterte er seine geigerische Kompetenz um das mikrotonale Spiel\, das er u.a. bei Madras Special (feat. Ramamani. \nRamamani became known in Germany through the collaboration between the Karnataka College of Percussion (KCP) ensemble and Charlie Mariano at the 1983 Jazzfest Berlin. There\, she presented her compositions and captivated the audience with her virtuoso vocals and extraordinary rhythmic skills. Other notable appearances included the Moers Festival in 1999\, the Leverkusener Jazztage in 2003\, and the RuhrTriennale in 2007. \nAll the musicians in this tribute project worked personally with Ramamani: \n\nRamesh Shotham was associated with her for decades as a member of the Karnataka College of Percussion ensemble. \nSarah Buechi initially studied South Indian vocal music with Ramamani for a year and performed with her during a subsequent study visit. \nZoltan Lantos lived in India for many years. There he expanded his violin skills to include microtonal playing\, which he showcased\, among other things\, with Madras Special (feat. Ramesh Shotham and Ramamani). \nStefan Bauer and Christoph Haberer performed with Ramamani on the Drümmele Maa All India Tour in 1993. \nDuring his subsequent trips to India\, Christoph Haberer performed with her in Bangalore at the invitation of the Goethe-Institut. \n\nMusically\, this project focuses on Ramamani’s compositions – including in combination with Western instruments and improvisations\, fully in keeping with her spirit of experimental and innovative interpretations of traditional works. \nIn addition\, the musicians present their own compositions spanning the spectrum of jazz\, electronic\, and world music.
