Ausgangspunkt seiner Musik ist der Joik\, die im Animismus verwurzelte Vokalkunst der Sámi. Die Sámi sind die Ureinwohner Nordeuropas. Der in Oslo lebende Klangkünstler\, Sänger und Komponist stammt aus Gamvik\, einem kleinen Fischerort an der nördlichsten Spitze des europäischen Festlandes. Polarnacht\, Mitternachtssonne und elementare Landschaften finden ihren Ausdruck in seinen Kompositionen und Improvisationen und -jenseits aller Worte- in den Facetten seiner Stimme. Als einer der innovativsten samischen Gegenwartskünstler verbindet er sich mit Sounddesigner Audun Strype (u.a. ECM) und den jungen Geigern Hans P. Kjorstad und Rasmus Kjorstad aus dem norwegischen Gudbrandsdal. \nVASSVIK (Sápmi\, Norway) is the crew of deep-voiced experimentalist and progressive Sámi joiker Torgeir Vassvik. He develops new visions of animistic Joik\, the vocal art of the Sámi indigenous people of Northern Europe. Torgeir’s Joik goes beyond words and is embedded in the sound of a 3-stringed guitar\, violins\, Sámi frame drum\, munnharpe and nature instruments. The Arctic Avant-Garde sound is rooted in folk\, classical\, jazz\, improvisational music. Vocal/percussion rituals are updated for the 21st century.
