Das Trio Conrad / van Meel / Mussawisade spannt gekonnt melodische Bögen zwischen Weltmusik und kammermusikalischen Jazz. Die Musiker vereinen spanische, indische, arabische und lateinamerikanische Einflüsse zu einer ausdrucksstarken musikalischen Mischung. Es ist eine Musik die sich über kulturspezifische Kategorien hinaus bewegt und so ein facettenreiches, einzigartiges musikalisches Spektrum bildet. Neben hauptsachlich eigene Kompositionen von Conrad und van Meel spielt das Trio Stücke von dem Iranisch-Französische Oud Spieler Anouar Brahem und dem Jazz und Fusion Bassist Stanley Clark.

Der Gitarrist Markus Conrad bewegt sich musikalisch zwischen Jazz, Blues und Weltmusik und vereint diese Elemente in seinem ausdrucksstarkem Spiel. Neben seiner Präsenz auf zahlreichen Bühnen und Festivals ist Markus Conrad mit seiner Band „Zo Knarr“ Preisträger von Jazzwerk-Ruhr, dem [NU] Jazzprijs Dordrecht und dem Young Jazzaward Tübingen.
An der akustischen Gitarre war er mit dem „Blejwas – Conrad Duo“ Preisträger beim “Open Strings“ in Osnabrück. Als Gitarrist der Band „Grand Jam Experience“ interpretiert er das Hendrix Repertoire in immer neuen Variationen.
Markus Conrad erhielt in frühen Jahren klassischen Klavierunterricht und erlernte das Gitarrenspiel autodidaktisch. Währen des Studium am ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem hatte er Unterricht bei Frank Sichmann und Onno Kelk und besuchte Masterclasses von Scott Henderson , Richard Bona, Mike Stern und John Abercrombie u.a.

Caspar van Meel ist ein niederländischer Bassist, Arrangeur und Komponist, der in Deutschland lebt und arbeitet. Sein sowohl vielseitiges als auch solides Spiel ist fest in der Jazztradition verwurzelt, zeigt aber immer eine in die Zukunft gerichtete Kreativität. John Goldsby, Bassist der WDR Big Band, sagte einmal über van Meel: „Seine Musik ist in der Jazztradition verwurzelt, aber er spielt mit einem Ohr an der Zukunft.“
Der 1979 in Amersfoort geborene van Meel hat zunächst einen Master of Arts & Culture mit Schwerpunkt Philosophie an der Universität Masstricht (NL) erlangt, anschließend widmete er sich vollständig der Musik und studierte Kontrabass am Conservatorium Maastricht bei Jan van de Boomen und Carol Hart (Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchester). Danacht studierte van Meel an der Folkwang
Universität in Essen und hatte Unterricht bei John Goldsby (WDR Big Band). Van Meel gewann bereits mehrere Preise: Mit seinem Quintett setzte er sich bei der Future Sounds Competition durch und erhielt den Jazzpreis Ruhr. Als Co-Leader der Band Trigonon wurde er mit dem Jazzwerkpreis Ruhr ausgezeichnet, und als Bassist der Mike Roelofs Band erreichte er das Finale der Dutch Jazz Competition. 2014 nahm er am renommierten Workshop für Jazz und kreative Musik am Banff Center in Kanada teil und arbeitete dort u. a. mit Steve Coleman, Vijay Iyer, Jeff Tain Waits, Reggie Workman und Marcus Gilmore.
Er spielte unter anderem mit der WDR Big Band, Philip Catherine, Götz Alsman, Gerd Dudek, Martin Sasse, Paul Heller, Pablo Held, Jonas Burgwinkel und Denis Gäbel und trat auf bekannten internationalen Festivals auf, etwa dem North Sea Jazz Festival, der WDR Jazz Night und den Leverkusener Jazztagen. Außerdem wird er regelmäßig für Theater- und Studioproduktionen engagiert, arrangierte und komponierte Musik für die Tonhalle Düsseldorf sowie die Bochumer Symphoniker
und arbeitet leidenschaftlich als Musikpädagoge.

Afra Mussawisade wurde 1973 in Teheran geboren und erhielt schon früh Unterricht in klassischen Persische Perkussion mit Arjang Kamkar und Tonbak-Master Farhangfar. In 1983 immigrierte er nach Deutschland und erhielt Unterricht in Cello und Klavier. Von 1991 bis 1993 studierte er afrikanische Percussion und besuchte Meisterklassen bei Luis Conte, Nicky Marrero, Glen Velez und Alex Acuña. Ab 1994 studierte er lateinamerikanische Perkussion am Konservatorium von Rotterdam Ab 1999 studierte er in Kuba an den Konservatorien von Santiago de Cuba und und nahm in Havanna privaten Unterricht bei kubanischen Musikern. Seit 2003 studierte er während mehreren Aufenthalten in Indien u.a. am Karnataka College Of Percussion/Bangaloresüdindische Perkussionsmusik.
Durch diese verschiedene Stilisten zu verinnerlichen hat Afra einen einzigartige Stil und Kombination von Perkussion entwickelt. Er ist ein weltweit gefragter Künstler und arbeitete u.a. zusammen mit der WDR Big Band, Till Brönner, Zuco 103, Drums United, Xavier Naidoo, Oene van Geeld, Mezzoforte, Scapino Ballet, Gabriel Perez und viele anderen.

The trio Conrad / van Meel / Mussawisade skillfully spans melodic arcs between world music and chamber jazz. The musicians combine Spanish, Indian, Arabic and Latin American influences into an expressive musical blend. It is a music that moves beyond culturally specific categories to form a multifaceted, unique musical spectrum. Besides mainly original compositions by Conrad and van Meel, the trio plays pieces by Iranian-French oud player Anouar Brahem and jazz and fusion bassist Stanley Clark.

Guitarist Markus Conrad moves musically between jazz, blues and world music and combines these elements in his expressive playing. In addition to his presence on numerous stages and festivals, Markus Conrad and his band „Zo Knarr“ are winners of Jazzwerk-Ruhr, the [NU] Jazzprijs Dordrecht and the Young Jazzaward Tübingen.

Markus Conrad received classical piano lessons in his early years and learned to play the guitar autodidactically. During his studies at the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem he had lessons with Frank Sichmann and Onno Kelk and attended masterclasses with Scott Henderson, Richard Bona, Mike Stern and John Abercrombie among others.

Caspar van Meel is a Dutch bassist, arranger and composer living and working in Germany. His playing, both versatile and solid, is firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, but always shows a creativity directed toward the future. John Goldsby, bassist of the WDR Big Band, once said of van Meel: „His music is rooted in the jazz tradition, but he plays with an ear to the future.“
Born in Amersfoort in 1979, van Meel first earned a Master of Arts & Culture degree with a focus on philosophy from the University of Masstricht (NL), then devoted himself entirely to music, studying double bass at the Maastricht Conservatory with Jan van de Boomen and Carol Hart (Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra). Danacht van Meel studied at the Folkwang
University in Essen and had lessons with John Goldsby (WDR Big Band). Van Meel has already won several prizes: With his quintet he prevailed at the Future Sounds Competition and received the Jazzpreis Ruhr.
