Michael Brecker gehört zu den wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Jazz Musikern seiner Generation. Er spielte während seiner Karriere auf 900 Alben und gewann ganze 13 Grammys. Als Sideman und Leader spielte der Saxophonist mit dem who is who des Jazz: Chet Baker, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius um nur einige zu nennen. Aber auch mit Popgrößen wie Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra oder Bruce Springsteen arbeitete Brecker in den 70er und 80er Jahren im Studio und auf der Konzertbühne zusammen.
Bei der Saarlouiser Jazznight am 10. Oktober 2020 präsentierte der Saarlouiser Schlagzeuger Kevin Naßhan die Musik Breckers und hatte sich zu diesem Anlass mit Saxophonist Johannes Müller, Gitarrist Martin Schulte, Pianist Christian Pabst und Bassist André Nendza einige der führenden deutschen Jazzmusiker eingeladen. Der Fokus liegt dabei vor allem auf dem legendären Album „Tales from the Hudson“, welches 1996 erschien und mit 2 Grammys ausgezeichnet wurde.
Mittlerweile wurde das Repertoire um eigene Kompositionen der beteiligten Musiker, die im Geiste Michael Breckers konzipiert wurden, erweitert.

Kevin Naßhan
absolvierte sein Studium an der Hochschule für Musik Saar bei Prof. Oliver Strauch, das er 2016 mit dem Bachelor of Arts abschloss. Sein Masterstudium folgte ein Jahr später an der Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mannheim bei Prof. Michael Küttner und Bodek Jahnke.
2014 gründete er mit dem Silent Explosion Orchestra seine eigene Big Band. Kevin konnte hier für seine Projekte bereits bekannte Musiker wie James Morrison, Dusko Goykovich, Jiggs Whigham, Jörg Achim Keller, Ludwig Nuss und viele weitere als Solisten gewinnen. Vier Jahre später veröffentlichte die Band ihre erste eigene CD „Prologue“ beim Mannheimer Label JAZZNARTS Records, die unter der Zusammenarbeit mit den beiden Solisten Johannes Müller und Philipp Schug entstand und welche von der Presse sehr positiv bewertet wurde. Rolf Thomas von der JAZZTHETIK bezeichnet das Album als „Meisterwerk“ und Kathrin Holthuis spricht in der Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung von einer „Frischzellenkur für den Big-Band-Jazz“. Beim Internationalen Big Band Competition in Hoofddorp (NL) erreichte die Band 2019 einen großartigen Platz in der First Class. Darüber hinaus wurde Kevin beim gleichen Wettbewerb mit einem Solistenpreis ausgezeichnet.

Michael Brecker is one of the most important and influential jazz musicians of his generation. He played on 900 albums during his career and won a full 13 Grammys. As a sideman and leader, the saxophonist has played with the who’s who of jazz: Chet Baker, George Benson, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Jaco Pastorius to name but a few. But Brecker also worked with pop greats like Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra or Bruce Springsteen in the 70s and 80s in the studio and on the concert stage.
At the Saarlouis Jazznight on October 10th, 2020, Saarlouis drummer Kevin Nasshan had invited some of Germany’s leading jazz musicians to present Brecker’s music: saxophonist Johannes Müller, guitarist Martin Schulte, pianist Christian Pabst and bassist André Nendza. The focus is mainly on the legendary album „Tales from the Hudson“, which was released in 1996 and was awarded 2 Grammys.
In the meantime, the repertoire has been expanded to include the participating musicians‘ own compositions, conceived in the spirit of Michael Brecker.
Kevin Naßhan
completed his studies at the Hochschule für Musik Saar with Prof. Oliver Strauch, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2016. His master’s degree followed a year later at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts with Prof. Michael Küttner and Bodek Jahnke.
In 2014, he founded his own big band, the Silent Explosion Orchestra. Kevin was able to recruit already well-known musicians such as James Morrison, Dusko Goykovich, Jiggs Whigham, Jörg Achim Keller, Ludwig Nuss and many more as soloists for his projects here. Four years later the band released their first own CD „Prologue“ on the Mannheim label JAZZNARTS Records, which was produced in collaboration with the two soloists Johannes Müller and Philipp Schug and which received very positive reviews from the press. Rolf Thomas of JAZZTHETIK calls the album a „masterpiece“ and Kathrin Holthuis speaks in the Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung of a „fresh cell cure for big band jazz“. At the International Big Band Competition in Hoofddorp (NL), the band achieved a great place in the First Class in 2019. In addition, Kevin was awarded a soloist prize at the same competition.
